John Travolta’s wife and actress Kelly Preston passed away at the age of 57 on Sunday morning after a breast cancer battle that lasted for two years.

The bereaved actor explained in the statement that Kelly had lost her two-year battle with breast cancer, noting that she was “courageous” through it all.

Kelly and John met on the set of “The Experts” in 1989 while she was still married to Kavin Gage. For the “Grease” star it was love at first sight, but that wasn’t the case for Preston.

It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.  My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while.  But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal. All my love, JT

Travolta thanked "the doctors and nurses of MD Anderson Cancer Center" where she was taken care of and extended his appreciation to their loved ones and friends. He then added:

“Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother.”

In conclusion, John urged fans to give his family some privacy and pray for them in this difficult time. A spokesperson for the Travolta family revealed to People Magazine that the late actress kept her diagnosis a secret and was undergoing medical treatment before she passed. The representative wrote:

“She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched.”

Born on October 13, 1962, Preston went to the University of Southern California and majored in acting and broke into the industry with a role in 1985’s “Mischief.” She went to star in an array of movies with her last role in the 2018 film “Gotti” where she acted alongside her husband.

People Magazine notes that Kelly and John met on the set of “The Experts” in 1989 while she was still married to Kavin Gage. For the “Grease” star it was love at first sight, but that wasn’t the case for Preston who went on to date other men before finally giving in to Travolta.

On December 24, 1991, John popped the big question to the woman of his dreams at the Palace Restuarant in Switzerland with a yellow-and-white six-carat diamond ring. They tied the knot that same year.

According to Closer Weekly, the former lovebirds have often admitted that the secret to their 28 years of marriage is to keep growing and always care deeply about the other.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first uneventful death that has plagued the Travolta family as People Magazine recalls that John and Kelly lost their first son Jett at the age of 16 while on a family vacation in 2009.

The teenager reportedly hit his head in a bathtub while he was having a seizure at their family home in the Bahamas. ET notes that Kelly is survived by John and their two children Ella, 20, and Benjamin, 9.
