The concise announcement accompanied a poster of Elizabeth Debicki and a statement from her expressing her gratitude for the opportunity and how honored she felt to have been chosen to play Princess Diana.
Debicki wrote that the princess's spirit, words, and actions lived in the hearts of so many people, and it was a true privilege to be joining the series, which already had her hooked from the first episode.
The actress would be stepping in to replace actress Emma Corrin as Princess Diana. With the announcement of Debicki's recruitment onto the show's cast, it is clear to see that the final seasons of the series are shaping up pretty nicely.
By joining the cast of "The Crown," Debicki would not only be stepping in to fill the shoes of the great royal but also the shoes of the many excellent actresses who have played Diana in several other movies.
The life and essence of the princess have been portrayed many times in history. Such is what happens when a person like Diana leads a life of great significance and changes history in one way or another.
Actress Emma Corin joined the series in the fourth season and did a marvelous job at portraying the princess. Not only was she breathtakingly accurate, but she also shared a striking resemblance with the late royal.

Television actress Jeanna de Waal also got to be Princess Diana in the Broadway musical, "Diana." The production was just beginning previews before the pandemic started, forcing all productions to shut down.
New Zealand actress Bonnie Soper also played the elegant princess in two Lifetime movies centered on Prince Harry's romance story with Meghan Markle, "Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance" in 2018, and "Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal" in 2019.
Lesley Harcourt briefly played the princess in Hallmark's "William & Catherine: A Royal Romance." 2007's documentary, "Diana: Last Days of a Princess" featured actress Genevieve O'Reilly.
Other actresses include Amy Secombe, Julie Cox, Serena Scott Thomas, Nicola Formby, and Caroline Bliss. Debicki would be joining a great list of women to portray the phenomenal royal.
