Sarah Michelle Gellar Discovered 8-Year-Old Son's Vision Problem during Quarantine
Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar had something beneficial occur to her amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease. The new form of learning during the pandemic helped the star notice something wrong with her son.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, 43, famous for starring on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," discovered an ailment her son was struggling with amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. Speaking to “Today Parents,” the actress confessed how she discovered that her son had vision problems.
Due to COVID-19, several people had to homeschool their children to curb the spread of the virus. Homeschooling meant children had to use computers to keep up with their school work.

SON’S VISION PROBLEMS
One day, while her son, Rocky, 8, was trying to do some online learning, his mother noticed something. Gellar picked up that her son was struggling to focus on the screen.
However, she initially assumed it was just eye strain that the little boy was suffering from. She explained to “Today Parents” how she made the discovery stating:
"I really chalked it up to screen fatigue because my kids didn’t have a lot of access to devices (before the coronavirus quarantine)."
KIDS DON’T USE GADGETS
The actress shared how this changed as children started needing technology devices to access things like Zoom for their school work. Gadgets are also used by the children to stay in touch with their friends.
Gellar also celebrated another milestone on September 1, 2020.
For Gellar, this new trend was strange as it wasn’t something they’re used to. Although her son would blink hard while trying to focus on the screen in front of him, his mother thought it was just because he wasn’t used to using such devices.
ROCKY’S DIAGNOSIS
However, as the quarantine progressed, she started getting concerned as Rocky’s vision didn’t seem to be adjusting. The Emmy Award winner ended up getting him to an optometrist for a check-up.
The eye doctor found out that Rocky had myopia or nearsightedness, that was progressing quickly. She’s since gotten her son contact lenses that can assist with his diagnosis.
NOT WEARING EYEGLASSES
Rocky isn’t keen on wearing eyeglasses because he’s worried about how it will affect his athletic endeavors. The “Cruel Intentions” actress works to promote CooperVision which is an eyewear business.
The company makes contact lenses that are safe for children aged 8 – 12 and are able to slow the progression of myopia. So the actress’s son will be wearing them while in quarantine with his family at their Los Angeles, California home.
ROCKY IS LEFT-HANDED
Another thing that is different about her son is that he’s left-handed. Besides Rocky, Gellar also shares a daughter, Charlotte, 11, with husband Freddie Prinze Jr.
In June 2020, the star’s children both graduated from their respective grades. She celebrated her children’s achievement by jokingly posing with a sign on social media that revealed she’d survived homeschooling.
CELEBRATING ANNIVERSARY
Gellar also celebrated another milestone on September 1, 2020. Taking to Instagram, she shared a throwback photo of herself and her husband’s wedding and paid tribute to their anniversary.
The couple got married on September 1, 2002, after first meeting on the set of 1997’s film “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Besides not allowing her children to use technology devices, Gellar and Prinze Jr. also have a no-phone rule at the dinner table to promote more contact and conversation.
