Gwen Stefani with Blake Shelton & More Celebrities Who Got Engaged in 2020
It is no secret that 2020 was a challenging year for most people. Fortunately, some celebrities, like Matthew Perry and Gabby Sidibe, made the best out of it and got engaged!
While some couples couldn’t stand being together during the lockdown, others realized that they were meant to be together. Check some of the celebrities who popped the question (or said yes) in 2020.
"We cannot wait to be married and are looking forward to a life together."
ARIANA GRANDE & DALTON GOMEZ
The “God Is a Woman” singer Ariana Grande and real estate agent Dalton Gomez surprised the world on December 20 after revealing their engagement on social media.
Grande and Gomez supposedly started dating in January 2020 and spent most of the pandemic together at her house in Los Angeles. Details of their future are scarce.
MARIA SHARAPOVA & ALEXANDER GILKES
On December 17, former tennis player Maria Sharapova revealed that she and her boyfriend, Alexander Gilkes, were engaged. The pair confirmed their relationship back in 2018.
Gilkes, a businessman who is friends with Prince William, thanked Sharapova on social media for making him a “very very happy boy” and added that he wants to spend a lifetime loving her.
KESHIA KNIGHT PULLIAM & BRAD JAMES
“The Cosby Show” alum Keshia Knight Pulliam and actor Brad James got engaged in Atlanta in December, as well. Unlike the previous couples, the big news was shared by Pulliam’s rep.
The rep revealed that the couple celebrated the engagement with some family members, including Ella, Pulliam’s three-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
MATTHEW PERRY & MOLLY HURWITZ
The “Friends” star Matthew Perry revealed in November that he proposed to Molly Hurwitz, his girlfriend of over two years. About the big decision, Perry said:
"I decided to get engaged. Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time.”
GABOUREY SIDIBE & BRANDON FRANKEL
Gabby Sidibe and her boyfriend Brandon Frankel, who she has also credited as her “best friend,” got engaged in 2020, as well. The “Empire” actress revealed the news on November 24.
Frankel’s proposal was quite particular. He got help from the couple’s cat, Derrell, who wore a charm reading, “will you marry my daddy?” Frankel included balloons and rose petals, too.
JUSTIN DUGGAR & CLAIRE SPIVEY
Two months after “Counting On” star Justin Duggar and Claire Spivey began courting, they got engaged. In a statement shared by the couple, they admitted they were meant to spend their lives with each other. They added:
"We cannot wait to be married and are looking forward to a life together of faith in Christ, love for one another, and happiness!"
GWEN STEFANI & BLAKE SHELTON
Singers and “The Voice” coaches Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, who met on the show's set in 2015, announced that he popped the question on October 27.
The couple, who got engaged in Oklahoma, revealed the news by sharing photos on social media showing Stefani holding up her left hand while kissing Shelton.
CONOR MCGREGOR & DEE DEVLIN
Former UFC champion Conor McGregor and Dee Devlin, who has been by his side since 2008 and shares two children with him, announced their engagement in August.
McGregor uploaded a photo on social media marking the significant milestone. In it, he and his soon-to-be wife were smiling, and she was showing off her big ring.
TAREK EL MOUSSA & HEATHER RAE YOUNG
“Flip or Flop” star Tarek El Moussa proposed to his girlfriend Heather Rae Young, known for “Selling Sunset,” during a boat trip to Catalina Island in California while celebrating their first anniversary.
Since the couple loves the island and spending time on the boat together, the TV personality considered it would be the best way to pop the question.
DUANE CHAPMAN & FRANCIE FRANE
Bounty hunter and TV personality Duane “Dog” Chapman and Francie Frane, a rancher from Colorado, got engaged in May, about ten months after Chapman’s wife Beth died of throat cancer.
According to Frane, who went public about her relationship with Chapman in March 2020, Chapman turned off all of the lights and lit a “bunch of candles” to pop the question.
Frane, who was not expecting the proposal, added that they would wait until after the coronavirus lockdown to actually walk down the aisle so that their friends and family can be present.
It seems like plenty of celebrities will tie the knot in 2021! However, gospel singer Kierra Sheard couldn’t wait that long, so she married Jordan Kelly in December. The photos of the ceremony are gorgeous.
