Tarek El Moussa's Fiancée Heather Rae Young Reflects on the Challenges of Being a Stepmom

When reality star Heather Rae Young married Tarek El Moussa, she wasn’t prepared to be a stepmother to two young children. The star shared how she was handling the transition.

This week, Heather Rae Young opened up about what it was like being a parent. The “Selling Sunset” star didn’t have much experience with parenting before moving in with her fiancé and his two children.

In January 2021, Young, 33, and Tarek El Moussa, 39, were supposed to move into a new house. The newly engaged couple was living in a Newport, California rental for around nine months.

However, things didn’t work out as planned, and they had to move to another rental home in the same area. The couple’s home that they’ve been renovating experienced some delays.

On February 23, 2021, Young shared that the hardest thing about being a new parent was that she’d never raised a human being before. She shared had enough time to get used to parenting.

The star explained how a mother prepared by carrying her baby for nine months. During that period, some mothers get themselves comfortable with the idea of being parents, with Young adding:

“I never had that prep time. I was just thrown into it completely.”

The reality star confessed that helping to raise El Moussa’s children could be a lot for her to juggle and manage. However, Young, who will change her name once married, thought she was doing a great job so far.

Young and her fiancé also make it a point to put the children first.

The “Flip or Flop” star shares two children, Taylor, 10, and Brayden, 5, with his ex-wife, Christina Haack, 37. The Netflix personality actually met the children one week before she moved in with them.

The “Flipping 101” star revealed that his son had to adjust to his fiancée quite quickly. He explained that Brayden was just three years old when the reality star moved in one day and never left, stating:

“It took him a few weeks to get accustomed to it.”

The California native was also in awe of seeing the children grow up in front of her eyes. She, El Mousa, and Haack are co-parenting the children together, and the ex-wife gets to take them home once in a while.

Young and her fiancé also make it a point to put the children first. At the beginning of the month, the reality star surprised El Moussa by getting a tattoo of his name as a Valentine's Day gift.
