KIM FILES FOR DIVORCE

On February 19, reports revealed that Kardashian officially filed for divorce from West. In her divorce filing, she requested joint physical and legal custody of their four children, North West, 7, Saint West, 5, Chicago West, 3, and Psalm West, 1.

Reports also indicated the couple's divorce was amicable as they did not contest the prenuptial agreement they signed before their marriage in May 2014.

THE WRITING WAS ON THE WALL

Before Kardashian's official filing for divorce, multiple reports emerged hinting that their marriage was in danger. In a Page Six report from January 5, multiple sources told the online publication that divorce was imminent for the couple. One source said:

"They are keeping it low-key but they are done. Kim has hired Laura Wasser and they are in settlement talks."

Two weeks before Kardashian officially filed for divorce, reports also emerged that the couple was living separate lives. Reports had it that West had removed his items from their home in Calabasas, including 500 pairs of sneakers. It was also reported that the couple was no longer speaking to each other.

WHAT WENT WRONG?

Kardashian and West's relationship issues seem to have started last year when the rapper made a series of startling revelations while launching his presidential campaign.

West broke down in tears while speaking about abortion, going as far as revealing they almost aborted their daughter, North, in 2012.

The rapper also went on multiple rants on Twitter, causing people to wonder if his account had been hacked. He seemingly accused Kardashian and her mom, Kris Jenner, of trying to lock him up.

Despite his multiple scandalous statements, Kardashian supported her husband in many ways and was always there to defend him as he battled with his bipolar disorder.

However, there was only so much she could take. It was revealed that the final straw that led to the SKIMS owner filing for divorce was West's refusal to get the help that she requested.

A source told HollywoodLife that she and her mom tried to get West to counseling. She also offered support as best as she could, but all her efforts were met with constant refusal by West.

KIM'S THIRD DIVORCE

When Kardashian and West finalize their divorce settlement, it would be the third time the former's marriage is coming to an end. She has been married twice, with each union ending in divorce.

Kardashian's first husband was music producer Damon Thomas, who she wed in 2000 after eloping with him when she was 19. The marriage ended in divorce, which was finalized in 2004.

Kardashian is also famous for her divorce from basketball player Kris Humphries, who she was married to for only 72 days. She revealed years later that she knew their marriage would not work out.

Though Kardashian's divorce from West is all the more painful, especially as they share four kids, she can take solace in the fact that their time together was filled with many beautiful moments and milestones.
