15-Year-Old Dies after Trying to Ride the Hood of a Car While with Friends
A 15-year-old boy passed away this week after attempting to ride the hood of a car in a parking lot while one of his friends drove.
A 15-year-old boy sustained severe injuries after he fell off the hood of a moving car on Monday, May 31, 2021. The young man was with three friends when the accident occurred.
The Salem Police Department shared details of the accident in a press release on Monday. Officers were called to the south parking lot of Riverfront Park at 3:30 a.m. on Monday.

On arrival, officers found the 15-year-old pinned underneath his friend's car. The Salem Firefight department responders were able to extract the boy then paramedics took over.
The paramedics transported him to Salem Health, where he later died as a result of his injuries. The Salem Police Department explained what happened in their press release.
The four friends had been driving around the parking lot when the driver, a 16-year-old female, stopped the car. The deceased boy jumped onto the hood, and the young woman started driving forward.
The teenager fell off the hood and was pinned underneath the car. Another female friend called 911, while a third friend tried to get assistance for the trapped boy.
Officers later determined that Yoda had been driving his Honda on the I-15 south when the car veered into the center median.

Due to the ages of the victim and the other juveniles involved in the case, their identities have not been released by officials. It is unclear if the driver will face charges as the investigation is still ongoing.
A few days before this tragic accident, another young man lost his life during a car crash. In California, 19-year-old Troy Yoda lost his life after being involved in a one-car crash in San Bernardino County.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to an accident at 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2021. The crash happened on the southbound Interstate 15 and Alvord Mountain Road in Harvard.
Officers later determined that Yoda had been driving his Honda on the I-15 south when the car veered into the center median. His car entered the Manix Wash, became airborne, and hit into wash's concrete wall.
It is unclear why his car veered into the wash. According to San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Coroner's Division, an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is still underway.
Following his passing, Yoda's family set up a GoFundMe to cover the funeral cost and other unexpected costs. His family described him as a handsome and special young boy who had a loving personality.
