DEALING WITH ADDICTION
The news of the couple’s marriage comes after Doherty revealed to BBC Scotland’s The Seven program recently that he has been remained clean from heroin for more than two years, saying:
“I’m in recovery, I suppose. I’m two-and-a-half years clean of heroin, which is a big deal for me. And yeah, I’m ticking along. I’m writing music, still writing music, yeah.”
DOING TIME
During the interview, the artist also got candid about his own experience in prison and a joint art program he is involved in with fellow inmates that helps rehabilitate them.
The poet shared the program entails prisoners getting out of their cell and being given pens and papers and all the tools needed to draw.
When asked how he came up with the program, Doherty referenced his own experience of being an inmate and said being locked up is difficult for anyone, especially a creative who needs to function.
The actor divulged that when he was in prison, he never had the opportunity to do anything creative, so now that he has a chance to bring the art project to other inmates, he hopes to inspire them.
