84-Year-Old Pilot with Parkinson's Gets Chance to Fly Plane One Last Time in an Emotional Video
Former pilot, Myrta Gage, flew a plane for the last time at the age of 84. Photos and videos of her memorable day went viral, with many social media users touched by her story.
Having Parkinson’s disease is a struggle not just for the diagnosed person but also for their family. The brain disorder eventually leads to physical problems such as shaking and difficulty with mobility.
So when 84-year-old Myrta Gage was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, her family went the extra mile to make her happy.

Her family tried to fulfill her bucket list “as time allows and as her health allows.” On top of that list was to fly a plane once again as she did in her youth.
Her son, Earl, got in touch with a pilot, Cody Mattiello, to make his mom’s dream come true. Before Gage knew it, she found herself in familiar surroundings -- a cockpit. Mattiello shared:
“[...] I was more than happy to help a fellow aviator. Beautiful weather to fly down Lake Winnipesaukee and around Mount Kearsarge to see the fall colors.”
Like Mattiello, a woman previously became her friend’s source of happiness after she went the extra mile to make his dying wish come true.
“As a New Hampshire-born pilot, I feel lucky to be able to share my love of aviation and be a part of making memories like this for others,” Mattiello added.
Several photos and videos of Gage flying for the last time made their way to Mattiello’s Facebook and immediately went viral on social media.
The post received over 2,000 reactions and 300 comments from users who were touched by Gage’s story. One person wrote:
“This is one of the SWEETEST stories I’ve heard in a long time! [...] You made that sweet lady’s day, and I’m sure it brought back great memories for her!”
Many others thanked Mattiello for bringing joy to Gage’s life and hoped that more people would show the same kindness and compassion to others.
Fulfilling someone’s wish, especially when they are ill, is one of the greatest feelings. Like Mattiello, a woman previously became her friend’s source of happiness after she went the extra mile to make his dying wish come true.
According to the woman, her friend Luke revealed that he only had days to live and created a bucket list of things he wanted to do before finally resting. On top of it was to visit the beach.
Without much discussion, the woman and her husband drove to see Luke and took him on a road trip to Surfer’s Paradise, where he enjoyed the sand and sea.

Sadly, after a weekend of fun, Luke quietly passed away. Although devastated, the woman was happy to know that her friend’s wish was fulfilled before his death.
