Woman Thinks She's Expecting One Baby, Gives Birth to Extremely Rare Quadruplets

This year, a woman was excited about the news of her pregnancy. However, she was soon realized it was going to be a "wild ride" after learning she was not only expecting one baby.

Marietta, Georgia resident Madison Collier, was excited that her daughter, Isla, would be gaining a new sibling. However, the 33-year-old got more than she bargained for during her eight-week appointment this past April.

The mother was not using any fertility treatment, nor did she have a history of twins, so she was shocked when her ultrasound technician told her she would have more than one baby.

IT WAS A BIG SURPRISE

Collier said she didn't really get over the shock. Learning that she was going to be having four babies came as a surprise. Jackson Health System stated that the rare occurrence happens once in 700,000.

Her husband, Justin, 34, always envisioned their family would stop growing after they had two kids. However, the parents quickly had to shift their plans. Finding out about the quadruplets was a unique experience.

SHE STARTED PANICKING

At first, Collier thought something was wrong. She recalled the encounter after she was told there was more than one baby and said: "I started kind of panicking."

Collier told the ultrasound technician it wasn't a funny joke to make. He informed her that he wasn't joking and started counting the babies on the screen. The mom felt ill-equipped for so many children.

HER HUSBAND FELT FAINT

The mother said: "We don't have a big enough car, a big enough house." Her husband needed to lie down on the ground upon hearing the news because he started to feel faint.

The only family member who reacted positively immediately was sister Isla. The four-year-old said:

"Well… that gives me lots of kids to play with."

BABIES ARE DOING WELL

In September, the mom welcomed her babies three months premature. All four are doing well but need to stay in the hospital until November.

Collier said her little ones have been getting a lot of love. She stated: "It's definitely going to be a wild ride. I think when they come home, it's going to take an adjustment, but we'll get it."

FIRST-TIME PARENTS

Collier was not the only mom to find out she was expecting four babies at once. In 2014, Ivanna Cardenas Gutierrez and her husband David were first-time parents when their doctor told them she was carrying four little ones.

Ninety percent of quadruplets are conceived with the help of medical technology or fertility treatment. However, the Gutierrez family managed this miracle all on their own.

ONE-IN-15 MILLION

The couple was speechless, as were Taylor Becher and Lance Thompson, another couple expecting quadruplets. Theirs were identical quadruplets, and the rarity of this is one in 15 million!

Sawyer, Kennedy, Lakely, and Aurora were welcomed into the world at 31 weeks in 2020. Having one baby is a massive adjustment, but these commendable parents managed four new babies at once.
