Drew Carey and his fiancée Amie Harwick had plans to spend the rest of their lives together for a while. That never happened, though, and Harwick is now dead.

Having a successful career and a loving and healthy relationship is more complicated than most people think. Drew Carey and Amie Harwick knew it as they were engaged for less than a year.

Unfortunately, things ended tragically for Harwick as she was found dead in a Hollywood Hills neighborhood. Here's what happened to "The Price Is Right" ex-fiancée.

HARWICK AND CAREY’S RELATIONSHIP

Harwick was a former Playboy model who graduated in psychology from California Polytechnic University and then got a master's in clinical psychology focused on marriage and family therapy from Pepperdine University in Malibu.

Before dating Carey, Harwick was quite successful in her field. Apart from working with people who suffered from anxiety and depression, she also treated sexually exploited teenagers and children with traumas.

If that wasn’t enough, she published a book titled “The New Sex Bible for Women” in 2014 and appeared in “Addicted to Sexting,” a 2015 documentary.

Although she had already accomplished a lot as a model and psychologist, she attracted the most headlines during her relationship with “The Price Is Right” host Drew Carey.

Carey, one of the most successful game show hosts in the business, is worth around $165 million and has not been shy about the secret behind his success. He once said that setting your own goals was mandatory.

Otherwise, you’d walk through life in auto mode, spending your time, which “you only have a precious few,” on things you don’t necessarily want.

The authorities kept investigating and found that someone had forced their entry into her home.

Coming back to Carey and Harwick’s relationship, they met in Las Vegas in 2017 and started sparking dating rumors that June when he uploaded a photo on Instagram next to her.

The following month, he shared another pic of the two smiling at the camera with the caption, “The face of a lottery winner,” referring to himself. They announced their engagement in late January 2018.

Unfortunately, their relationship was short-lived. News about the demise of their romance started making the rounds in the media in November 2018, only 11 months into their engagement.

HARWICK AFTER THE SPLIT

For a whole year, Harwick stayed away from the spotlight. The details of her and Carey’s split were never disclosed, but given that neither shared negative comments about the other, it’s fair to say their separation was amicable.

Unfortunately, life had a tragic destiny prepared for the family therapist. In February 2020, she was found dead in a Hollywood Hills neighborhood. The murderer was later identified as Gareth Pursehouse, her obsessed ex-boyfriend.

The police got a call from a desperate woman early Saturday morning, and when they arrived at the scene, Harwick’s roommate met them on the street. She reported that the psychologist had been assaulted inside her home.

As they were making their way into Harwick’s house, they found her under a third-story balcony severely injured. She was rushed to the hospital, but she died due to the injuries sustained after falling.

The authorities kept investigating and found that someone had forced their entry into her home. They also noticed signs of a struggle inside, so they checked the surveillance footage and identified Pursehouse as the aggressor.

It is essential to point out that Harwick had previously obtained two restraining orders against Pursehouse, a software developer and photographer. However, the last one ended just two weeks before she died.

The two dated several years before and even lived together for a short time, but he was apparently obsessed with her. She would frequently tell her friends that she was scared of him and should probably get “some mace or pepper spray.”

One of Harwick’s friends added that a chance encounter between Pursehouse and Harwick at a party in January that year may have triggered his violent behavior. Shortly after her passing, the police arrested Pursehouse at his home in Playa del Rey on murder charges.

It is fair to say that Connor and Jaracz’s incentives to reclaim his life saved him.

CAREY ON HARWICK’S PASSING

Even though Carey and Harwick’s relationship was short, her death deeply affected him. “The Price is Right” didn’t shoot episodes for three days, and he released a statement that read:

“She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief.”

Carey also described her as a “once in a lifetime” love, but it was not his first failed engagement. In 2012, he and Nicole Jaracz parted ways after being together for almost a decade.

The former couple announced their engagement in 2007 and admitted to being happy and excited about their future. Three years later, he shed almost 100 pounds and credited Jaracz and her son, Connor, as the source of his inspiration.

Carey was at his heaviest weight at 250+ pounds and developing some weight-related health issues, like type-2 diabetes. The fact that he couldn’t play with Connor for longer than a few minutes also made him feel terrible.

Eventually, he realized that if he didn’t lose weight, he probably wouldn’t be able to see Connor graduate high school. Connor and Jaracz’s incentives to reclaim his life saved him.

Following their separation, his representative revealed that they still had love and affection for each other, and he would remain deeply involved with Connor’s life.

Although Connor was not Carey’s biological child, he embraced him as his own and frequently referred to him as his son. He would also honor Jaracz on Mother’s Day and show gratitude for bringing Connor into his life.

Another famous crime that happened in Los Angeles was that of Nicole Simpson, O.J. Simpson’s wife. A private investigator seemingly proved that the retired NFL player’s son, Jason, was the murderer.
