Scott Baio is most famous for his role on the hit sitcom "Happy Days" and its spin-off "Joanie Loves Chachi." The American actor has also made headlines countless times for being a lady's man and for his romance with Renee Sloan, who would later become his wife.

Baio and Sloan met in the 90s, and since then, they have been inseparable. Despite facing many controversies, this couple stuck together, and here is how they remained united through the tumultuous years.

THEIR MARRIAGE STRUGGLES

Baio and Sloan have a union made out of love, but love alone has proven insufficient to lead a happy life for this celebrity couple. The couple's marriage faced many problems ranging from the media's interference to life-threatening health issues.

Shortly after Sloan gave birth to their first child, Bailey, the baby tested positive for a very rare metabolic disorder: glutaric acidemia type I. Bailey was born prematurely, and Sloan was supposed to bear twins, but the second baby died during the 11th week of her pregnancy.

The couple spoke candidly about how difficult it was being first-time parents to an unhealthy child during an interview. Their child's health affected their relationship as the parents were enraged by their situation.

However, it was later revealed that Bailey's test results were wrong. Still, the situation inspired her parents to start the Bailey Baio Angel Foundation for other patients with metabolic disorders.

Baio and Sloan did overcome their daughter's health issues and even created something good out of the situation, but this would not be their last with health problems.

The "A Wedding for Bella " actor's marriage hit another stumbling block when Sloan was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor. In 2017 Sloan went public about her battle with two tumors and Microvascular Brain Disease.

Thankfully, she had the full support of her husband, and she turned out healthier every day that passed. Sloan and Baio have been great supports to each other since their marriage in 2007.

THEIR MARRIAGE FACES CONTROVERSIES

While Sloan found a way to battle her illness, she and her husband made the news after a woman came out with a claim that the actor sexually abused her. The allegations caused a lot of controversies on social media, and Baio's name was dragged in the mud.

Sloan tried clearing her husband's name as she tweeted about how the lady's allegations were false and claimed that Baio was innocent. However, her tweet only led to further attacks from some viewers.

Baio, who could not stand his wife being insulted, got involved and called out the user who attacked his wife. Despite being reputedly targeted for Baio's sexual abuse allegations, the couple's relationship grew stronger.

The 49-year-old stunt woman's story to defend her husband was chronicled in Middle of a Love Story, where the doting wife came out candid about how she knew her husband's sexual abuse allegations were false and how he was proved innocent.

According to Sloan's statement, the 61-year-old actor's attitude towards her when they started dating made her believe he couldn't have abused anyone. The actress revealed she was sexually abused when she was younger and still carried the trauma until she met Baio.

However, Sloan revealed her time dating the "Foxes" star helped her heal from the trauma of being abused, and she made it clear he was always understanding and loving. Sloan also noted that Baio took a lie-detecting test after being cleared of all charges to prove his innocence.

SLOAN'S LIFE-THREATENING HEALTH ISSUES

During an interview, Sloan and Baio opened up about her brain tumor, which they had to explain to their daughter. Asked if he ever thought what to do without his wife, Baio revealed that he did have such thoughts as he went on to say:

"It was nothing about me in it. It was all about our kid but I would have been devastated but for our daughter, because she's everything to us so that would crush her."

During the interview, Sloan revealed their daughter caught Baio crying on her shoulder in the kitchen before they explained the situation to their little girl. According to Sloan, seeing her daddy cry, Bailey, who didn't know what was going on, asked her to apologize for making Baio cry.

Meanwhile, this isn't the first health crisis for Baio's family. In 2010, Sloan was diagnosed with DCIS stage 0-1 early breast cancer, but she had a successful lumpectomy. She has since undergone two other lumpectomies, most recently in 2014.

THEIR RELATIONSHIP TIMELINE

Baio and Sloan, an actress, stunt woman, and swimsuit model, met for the first time at the Playboy mansion, where the actor visited regularly, but they did not start a relationship until ten years later. They remained friends for decades before finally trying their luck as a couple in 2005.

Baio, well famous for his long list of short-lived relationships from his time with Denise Richards, Brooke Shields, and Jodie Foster, surprised many when he finally decided to walk down the aisle with no other lady than Sloan.

The couple said their vows at a luxury high-rise in Los Angeles on December 8, 2007. The 49-year-old actress revealed her mother-in-law and her manager were the only two people at the wedding.

Their nuptials came in just a month after Sloan gave birth to Bailey. Since then, Sloan and Baio have notably been through many difficulties, but despite the challenges in their marriage, the celebrity couple stuck together, and their love has been growing stronger.
