The woman with the Reddit username Tiny-toker wrote a detailed post in the "JUSTNOMIL" community to vent about her mother-in-law, who she thought was very kind-hearted and welcoming.
She shared that she had been working from home three days a week, and she loved doing it because she got to spend time with her daughter and dog. She explained:
"Me and SO both have good jobs and work around each other's needs."

While working from home one day, OP planned to go for a walk with her dog and daughter. She quickly finished replying to her emails and headed outside.
Her mother-in-law didn't feel guilty about her actions.
When she got home, she was horrified to see the front gate wide open because it could only be unlocked using a key or a crowbar. She also noticed that her bedroom window curtains were tightly shut.

Terrified, the woman sent her dog inside the house first. She heard the dog bark and then stop after hearing a familiar feminine voice. It turned out that her mother-in-law had used the spare key to enter her house. When she asked her what was she doing there, her mother-in-law replied:
"I have some new bedding for baby and thought I'd use the spare to let myself in"
OP told her that entering her house without her permission was not excusable. She explained that she could have called her first, but her mother-in-law didn't feel guilty about her actions.

Moreover, when OP asked her what she was doing with the curtains shut in her bedroom, she told OP that it was a "secret." Furious, OP told her it was her house, so she had the right to know, to which she replied:
"I'm just making sure you're not cheating on my boy, I thought if I waited until you left the house I could have a quick snoop....I shut the curtains coz I need the light on in here!"
OP confessed that she was surprised after hearing those words. The woman even defended her actions by saying she was just being a "good mother." OP was offended by the invasion of privacy.

The woman immediately asked her mother-in-law to get out of the house and return the spare keys. Then she told her husband everything when he returned home. She explained:
"He was mortified and so [expletive] angry that he couldn't even string sentences together."
He immediately called his mother and demanded an explanation. OP shared that she repeated the same things she had told her and broke into tears. OP's husband hung up and went to bed without saying anything.

The following day, he went to work while OP worked from home. Among her work emails, she noticed her mother-in-law's name. When she opened the email, she recounted:
"There's itemised bills of everything she's ever bought for our baby(her grandkid) and a very strongly worded email about how she will never forgive me"
OP's mother-in-law accused her taken her son away from her. She also felt OP wasn't letting her see her granddaughter and would suffocate the child with the dog.

Confused, OP didn't know what made her mother-in-law think like that. She forwarded the email to her husband and called him to tell him what her mother-in-law said.
"He's ultimately cutting her off from his life," wrote OP of her husband's reaction. Later, she saw a message from her mother-in-law threatening to call social services if she didn't get rid of the dog.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry, sounds awful," replied GlamGemini. Another Redditor named Prudence2020 asked OP how her mother-in-law thought OP was cheating on her husband.

"Do you think somehow she's got it into her head your (as in both of you) baby isn't his?!" she asked. OP replied that her daughter is her father's "spitting image," so cheating wasn't possible.
Meanwhile, Thewarlockminer opined, "If she never done this before in any way it might be a neurological disorder that suddenly on setted."
Most users felt bad for OP and agreed that her mother-in-law's behavior was unjustified. They felt OP's mother-in-law should respect her privacy.

Questions to Ponder:
Do you think OP's mother-in-law went too far or was OP overreacting?
It may be common for mothers-in-law to interfere with their son's lives but what OP's did certainly seemed to have crossed the line. OP and even her husband were furious. Do you think their reactions were justified? How would you react if you were OP?
Do you think OP's mother-in-law had a mental disorder?
Some Redditors suggested that OP's mother-in-law had a mental disorder because her accusations were pointless, and her behavior was unjustified. OP also updated her post, saying that her mother-in-law might have some "loose screws," but that was not very likely.
