After her marriage to Tom Cruise ended, Nicole Kidman met and married country singer Keith Urban. But just before they tied the knot, the actress requested a clause to be added to their prenuptial agreement.

Australian actress Nicole Kidman met actor Tom Cruise while the pair were filming the movie "Days of Thunder." Cruise had just divorced his previous wife, Mimi Rogers, so nothing stopped the movie stars from starting a romantic relationship.

Ten months after his divorce from Rogers was finalized, Cruise and Kidman married at a romantic ceremony in Telluride, Colorado, in 1990.

Kidman, at the time explained Cruise swept her off her feet, and she fell madly in love with him. After realizing her love for him, the actress explained that she was not concerned about whatever plans she had nurtured before and just wanted to have his baby.

Even though Cruise and Kidman were fan favorites, their relationship, unfortunately, was not meant to last because, after just nine years and eleven months, the pair separated to the astonishment of many.

The actor subsequently refused to attend counseling, and he shocked Kidman by filing for divorce at the Los Angeles Superior Court just days after, citing irreconcilable differences. Afterward, there were reports the pair did not sign a prenuptial agreement before marriage, and this was bound to make their divorce hearing much more complicated.

According to California law, where the couple resided after ten years of marriage, the wealthier spouse may have to pay lifetime alimony. The actor stated they had separated nine years and eleven months after their wedding in a bid to avoid paying alimony.

However, Kidman would not be denied as the actor relinquished the family's million-dollar Los Angeles seafront mansion and their Australian home overlooking Sydney Harbor.

Cruise had also agreed to split his fortune, estimated to be around $369 million in half, and give it to her. The actor's cooperative behavior resulted from Kidman revealing she had suffered a miscarriage weeks after her husband announced their marriage was over. After Cruise questioned if the child she miscarried was his, the actress explained she had DNA samples to prove so.

The actor was given full custody of the couple's two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, and he was allowed to hold on to their Manhattan apartment and 130-acre ski-resort property.

After her divorce from Cruise, Kidman met musician Keith Urban at an event in Los Angeles that honors Australians called the G’Day USA Gala. She was immediately attracted to him. On his part, Urban was not immediately interested in the actress, and it even took him four months before he called her after their first encounter.

The country singer was not sure if he wanted to be in a relationship at the time due to his largely publicized issues with drugs and alcohol.

He had been battling drugs and alcohol addiction since the 90s but described himself as a largely functional substance abuser during that time. When his addiction got out of hand, he checked himself into rehab in 1998 and was sober when he met Kidman.

On the other hand, Kidman knew he was the one after six months of dating. On her 39th birthday, Urban was outside in the snow on her stoop in New York with flowers in his hands. “That is when I went, ‘This is the man I hope I get to marry.'” she expressed.

From there, Urban took Kidman on a motorbike to Woodstock, N.Y., the site of the 1969 music festival, for a getaway, and the couple's love only grew stronger. After two years of dating, the two married in a lavish wedding ceremony in Sydney, Australia.

Before their marriage, the pair had to sign a prenuptial agreement. One of the clauses stated that Urban would get $600,000 a year for every year they were together if he stayed away from using illegal drugs or drinking excessively.

Kidman's ex-husband, Cruise, was reported to have been the one who insisted the actress added the clause to protect their children and also prevent Urban's issue from affecting them. In October 2006, four months into their wedding, that particular clause became null and void as the country singer was checked into rehab when Kidman staged an intervention for him after he relapsed.

The actress also had to plan to have her kids come over on set after Urban was checked into rehab. Even though the pair had talked about having a family, his recovery was the priority. Thankfully, Urban has remained sober, and speaking about the incident, the country star revealed that being away from his new wife was what drove him to relapse.

He said, "When she would go away to work on a movie, I would find myself feeling very alone, very lost, and vulnerable to my old ways. We had just gotten married, and this entity in my life is coming to crush and kill everything that I've got."

He, however, lauded his wife for saving his life and that meeting her when she did was not life-changing but life beginning.

Since their marriage in 2006, Urban and Kidman have become parents to daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, and it looks like their relationship is getting stronger. They welcomed their first daughter, Sunday Rose on July 7, 2008. The child was named after Australian art muse Sunday Reed and Urban's grandmother, Rose.

Their second child, Faith Margaret was born in 2011 through a surrogate due to Kidman suffering from fertility issues. The actress also opened up about her ectopic pregnancy while married to Cruise, explaining that before adopting, the pair tried for her to get pregnant.

She explained the yearning for a child led them to adopt, and even though she later got pregnant, the actress sadly lost the baby. Urban and Kidman have supported one another through difficult times and look to be enjoying their time together as they regularly post videos of them singing together on social media.

The country singer has also spoken about his feelings and their relationship in his song "Got It Right This Time" from his album "Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing."

The actress also explained she has been trying to teach her kids the value of hard work, stating that her career as an entertainer is a collective work for the family. She explained they are with her most of the time, and they see the enormous work that goes into her career. Her husband also has been incredibly loving and supportive.

Kidman revealed she hoped she could replicate that support for him because Urban also has a massive musical career. During the 2021 Golden Globes awards, Kidman made a surprise appearance with her children and husband after being nominated for the Best Actress in a Limited Series category.

Even though she did not win, the picture of her together with her husband and kids, who wore smiles throughout the event, showcased that her marriage was as strong as ever.

After 17 years of being together, the couple has managed to keep their relationship strong as they move between their home in Nashville, their busy work schedules, and Australia.

Their secret to keeping it all together is simple. The two make sure to call each other as much as possible or take the next flight out if they miss one another too much. But texting has never been part of their relationship. It's either “voice to voice and skin to skin,” said Nicole Kidman.
