Owen Wilson Was Reportedly Set to Wed Kate Hudson Who Was Seeing Other Men

Owen Wilson once allegedly tried to end his life because the woman he loved, Kate Hudson, was seeing another man. However, he's disputed the claims and avoided discussing that relationship with the media.

On May 11, 2007, Kate Hudson and her super famous parents, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, were spotted having a double date. Hudson's boyfriend of nine months, Owen Wilson, appeared happy as the foursome bonded.

A witness said the group was laughing and conversing easily while enjoying a couple of bottles of wine at Madeo, a West Hollywood restaurant. The source shared how the group seemed into each other and quite comfortable, like they were a family.

The outing was one of the rare times that Hudson and Wilson went out in public as a couple after keeping their relationship under wraps. The pair became close while working on the set of "You, Me and Dupree" in 2006.

The first time they were officially linked to each other was in August 2006. Wilson and Hudson began their relationship after the actress separated from her former husband, rock star Chris Robinson.

It seems the reason the two stars avoided going public with their relationship was that they were waiting for Hudson to file for divorce from her husband. With Robinson, she had one child, a son Ryder.

OWEN TRIED TO TAKE HIS OWN LIFE

On August 26, 2007, tragedy struck when Wilson almost died by suicide after overdosing with pills and self-harmed. According to a The Post source, the actor's actions were due to a fallout with a close friend.

Wilson was luckily discovered at his home by a family member and was sent to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was said to be in stable condition. In a statement at the time, the actor said:

“I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."

Rumors also circulated that Wilson's relationship with Hudson fell apart just before Memorial Day. The actress showed public displays of affection with her new partner, Dax Shepard, which might've pushed Wilson over the edge.

However, sources claimed that didn't have anything to do with Wilson's actions, and it wasn't even clear if he and Hudson were still together when she was seen with Shepard. The "Wedding Crashers" star had a history of struggling with depression.

In December 2007, Hudson addressed Wilson's suicide attempt noting what a lovely person he was and how much she loved him. She said she wished him all the best in life, including good health and all his life desires but didn't say much more.

Around eleven weeks after the incident, on October 31, 2007, Wilson was seen at a Union Square apartment of Chris Barish, New York nightclub owner, for his annual Halloween party. People in attendance initially thought it was someone dressed up as the actor.

Wilson came without a costume, stood out, and accompanied a male friend. A witness recalled how the star never looked better or happier, and the star was glowing after his suicide attempt.

His friends also dismissed his apparent breakup with Hudson, allegedly in May 2007, as a factor in the incident. A friend explained that it was complicated because it wasn't one thing that brought Wilson down, and in the past, he'd struggled with drugs addiction.

OWEN AND KATE GET ENGAGED

In February 2008, Hudson and Wilson appeared to be giving their relationship another go as they were seen all cozy together at the Oscars. At the event's afterparty, the couple flirted while a witness claimed:

“There was lots of arm touching, giggling. They were having lots of fun.”

Another person who attended the event noted how the pair were "all over each other." Months after Wilson's suicide attempt, Hudson was photographed wearing a massive diamond ring on her wedding finger.

Wilson had allegedly proposed to her in Miami, and the pair were set to marry the following year. The actress, then-28, was said to be "ecstatic" about the idea of marrying the actor.

However, it ended again less than two months after the couple rekindled their relationship. On May 9, 2008, Hudson was spotted with her "Bride Wars" co-star Steve Howey, visiting Boston's Liberty Hotel bar, Alibi.

While a few days later, on May 11, 2008, Wilson was seen visiting N.Y.C.'s Upstairs with two women. A friend of Wilson's had this to say about the couple's second breakup:

“It was a pretty bad breakup."

According to a People source, the on-again-off-again couple reconciled in 2009. Hudson and Wilson even spent some time together with the actress's son at the "Night at The Museum" actor's Malibu home.

The show host and actress [Drew Barrymore] explained how they were in an open relationship leading to [Kate] Hudson making her own confession.

However, they broke up again, and Hudson was linked to Alex Rodriguez. One time, the duo was seen flirting heavily at a hotel with the actress' arm wrapped around the athlete's waist.

KATE CONFIRMED SHE WAS WITH OWEN

In 2010, the "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" actress and Wilson still hadn't confirmed that they had dated, even though they were spotted together on different occasions. However, she criticized the media for trying to meddle in her private life, which she tried to keep out of the spotlight, stating:

"There are things that should be left alone and not discussed in public, and that was one of them."

In January 2022, decades after the relationship between Hudson and Wilson, she indirectly confirmed, perhaps accidentally, that they had dated. While appearing on "The Drew Barrymore Show," she said she'd "been there with a Wilson."

She was referring to having a relationship with one of the Wilson brothers, which includes Luke and Andrew. The "Bride Wars" actress didn't; however, Hudson didn't elaborate further about that.

The conversation came about when Drew Barrymore mentioned she once dated a Wilson, Luke. The show host and actress explained how they were in an open relationship leading to Hudson making her confession.
