On Mother's Day, Cumberbatch hosted Saturday Night Live for the second time in his career and wished his mom a happy Mother's Day. The 45-year-old also wished his wife, Hunter, who was in the audience, a happy Mother's Day.

Hunter, like Cumberbatch, has a flair for dramatics and is an avant-garde theatre playwright and director. She also starred alongside Reese Witherspoon in the 2004 movie "Vanity Fair."

The English-born actress reportedly first met Cumberbatch when they starred alongside each other in the 2009 film "Burlesque Fairytales." However, they did not start dating until years later.

When they eventually began dating, they kept their romance out of the spotlight and made one of their first public appearances together during the French Open Men's Final in June 2014.

In November 2014, Cumberbatch and Hunter announced their engagement. Their fans were surprised with how they announced it, as they chose to do so via the newspaper write-up in the births, deaths, and marriage column of The Times.

On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2015, the lovebirds tied the knot in front of 40 of their closest friends and family members. Their marriage came over a month after announcing they were expecting their first child together.

Hunter and Cumberbatch welcomed their first son, Christopher Carlton, on June 13, 2015, while their second son, Hal Auden, was born on March 3, 2017. They have since added a third son to their brood.
