Why Johnny Depp’s Lawyers Celebrated When Amber Heard Mentioned His Ex Kate Moss in Court
Johnny Depp's lawyers were caught on camera doing a mini fist pump after Amber Heard brought up a rumor about her ex-husband pushing Kate Moss down the stairs. Here's why they celebrated.
On May 5, 2022, Amber Heard testified in court during Depp's defamation trial against her. The actress accused her ex-husband of physical abuse and detailed how he once allegedly tried to hit her sister, Whitney, who was at the top of a staircase.
According to Heard, Whitney tried to stop Johnny during an altercation when the actor reportedly swung at her. Instantly, Heard thought of Depp's ex and their alleged stairs incident, where the actor pushed Moss.

As soon as Heard mentioned the model's name, Depp's lawyer, Ben Chew, was captured celebrating and throwing a small fist pump in the air. One network streaming the trial even shared the footage on social media.
WHY JOHNNY DEPP'S LAWYERS 'CELEBRATED' WHEN AMBER HEARD MENTIONED KATE MOSS
According to an insider close to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor, Chew's gesture was a “celebratory acknowledgment.” The source said:
“Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny's that clearly she felt was not supportive of him, which couldn't be further from the truth.”

Experts in the legal field claimed that the “Aquaman” star's mention of Moss opened a door for Depp's camp to bring up the alleged incident during the trial. Mitra Ahouraian, an entertainment lawyer, explained:
“[Moss] is still allegedly friends with Johnny, and her testimony wasn't allowed to come in before because it wasn't as relevant. That's one mistake [...], which potentially opened the door to [Depp's team] bringing [Moss] on as an impeachment witness.”
Depp's team could dispute that they should be allowed to call in Moss and refute the rumor that Depp pushed her down a flight of stairs. They may also cross-examine Heard about her comment on Moss.

Moss and Depp dated for three years in the '90s and despite their breakup, the model always praised her ex-boyfriend in public.
WHAT JOHNNY DEPP'S LAWYER SAID AS HE CELEBRATED AMBER HEARD'S KATE MOSS COMMENT
In the clip of Chew celebrating, he turned to his client and said, “Don't react. This is perfect!” Depp kept his head down but was seen smiling.
Depp's camp may also bring up Heard's domestic violence charge while in a relationship with Tasya van Ree. In 2009, Heard was arrested after allegedly hitting her ex-girlfriend's arm during a fight. The charges were later dropped.
SOME OF THE MOST EXPLOSIVE MOMENTS OF JOHNNY DEPP AND AMBER HEARD'S TRIAL
Several revelations and accusations were made throughout the trial, including Heard's two personality disorder diagnoses: borderline personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder.
Shannon Curry, an intimate partner violence expert, testified that Heard showed “reactive” and “overly dramatic presentation” and switched between being “princess and victim.”
Heard also admitted to hitting her ex-husband during the trial. She was heard in a recording saying, “I'm sorry that I didn't hit you across the face in a proper slap. I was hitting you. I was not punching you.”

Both parties also submitted photos that showed physical injuries sustained by Depp and Heard. In some pictures, the actor was seen falling asleep while holding ice cream, in what he said was Heard's plan all along, knowing he took opioids during a 17-hour workday.
Heard and Depp dated for two years before tying the knot in 2015. Heard filed for divorce the following year and got a restraining order to be away from Depp.
