Why Did Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson Break Up? Inside Their Romance and Split

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson became fan favorites on-screen, and a real-life couple after their film "Twilight" hit the theaters. Sadly, their relationship ended with a scandal that broke the hearts of many.

With the release of the "Twilight" saga came the growing popularity of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's love team. More so when they announced their real-life relationship.

It has been years since, and both actors have moved on separately. However, Davit Cronenberg recently revealed his idea for a film to reunite Stewart and Pattinson.

Although it won't be the 79-year-old director's next movie, he knows that transitioning the idea into reality could be difficult, given Stewart and Pattinson's relationship. He said:

"They have developed beautifully, separately as actors. Making arthouse movies and successfully carrying that off. Kristen and I had a great time, and Rob and I had a great time."

Pattinson and Stewart have not reconnected in a movie since their controversial breakup that left fans devastated. Although both have since moved on in life, the pain may not have been forgotten.

WHY DID KRISTEN STEWART AND ROBERT PATTINSON BREAK UP?

The Hollywood stars kept mum about their relationship for the longest time, hoping prying eyes wouldn't spot them together. However, despite their best efforts, Stewart and Pattinson were seen locking lips after sneaking out of the "New Moon" premiere party.

Their romance seemed serious as they welcomed 2010 together at an England resort, miles south of the "Batman" star's family home. However, despite probable evidence of their relationship, Stewart opted to keep their status a secret. She said in an interview, as reported by People:

"I would never cheapen my relationships by talking about them."

As months passed, the couple became more comfortable with the public and didn't shy away from showing affection outdoors. While all seemed perfect, trouble slowly crept into their relationship.

In July 2012, sources revealed that Stewart cheated on Pattinson with her "Snow White and the Huntsman" director, Rupert Sanders, who was married to Liberty Ross.

Soon enough, photos of the actress and Sanders kissing surfaced in the media. Kristen apologized for "the hurt and embarrassment" she caused in light of the scandal.

"This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him. I love him. I'm so sorry," she added.

It turned out that Pattinson was weeks away from proposing to Stewart and told close friends that the mansion he purchased was supposed to be their home. A source said:

"Robert hoped to marry Kristen and was making preparations to spring a proposal before she admitted cheating. [...] Now Rob is angry. He's left the mansion and not spoken to her since. They have exchanged heated text messages only."

Meanwhile, Pattinson pursued a relationship with musician FKA Twigs, born Tahliah Barnett. The duo was engaged for two years, from 2015 to 2017.

He is currently in a serious relationship with model Suki Waterhouse and has been spotted with her several times. The couple prefers to have a private relationship.
