THE TRUE STORY BEHIND ZOE KAZAN'S MOVIE "THE BIG SICK"

Shortly after Nanjiani and Gordon (the film's writers) began dating, she was put into a medically induced coma and diagnosed with a rare systemic auto-inflammatory disorder called Still's disease.

During those dreadful days, Nanjiani realized he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Gordon (played by Kazan in "The Big Sick"). They tied the knot a few months after Gordon woke up in 2007.

ZOE KAZAN WORKED WITH HER BOYFRIEND PAUL DANO IN "RUBY SPARKS"

Speaking of fantastic love stories, Kazan has one with Paul Dano, her "Ruby Sparks" co-star. Kazan and Dano met while rehearsing for the 2007 play "Things We Want." They keep most details of their romance under wraps and secretly became parents in 2018.

Kazan said she wrote the "Ruby Sparks" script out of a feeling of creative compulsion rather than a desire to showcase her abilities. After reading the main character's description, Dano believed it was him and asked if the script was for them. Kazan said yes. However, she had not thought about it until he brought it up.
