Samantha Markle filed a defamation lawsuit against her younger stepsister, Duchess Meghan, after the latter's CBS interview where she said they didn't know each other. The royal responded to the lawsuit by shutting down Samantha's claims.

Some people have never heard about Duchess Meghan's siblings, but she has several half-siblings. One of the most outspoken ones is her older half-sister, Samantha Markle, with whom she shares a father, Thomas Markle Sr.

The pair's father had Samantha and her brother, Thomas Jr., when he was married to his first wife, Roslyn. Thomas Sr worked in lighting on the show "Married With Children" and had Meghan with his second wife, Doria Ragland.

The royal's parents ended their marriage in divorce in 1988, when she was just six. As per Samantha's recollection, she and her siblings all got along before adding to TLC: "It was like a gift when Meghan was born."

What made her younger sibling special was that she had a personality and was full of life, leading the family to settle and become more lively. Samantha initially saw her family as beautiful, unique, interracial, and multicultural.

According to reports, Meghan allegedly grew up in the problematic part of southern California. However, Samantha refuted those claims when speaking to TLC, saying the media wanted to create a "ghetto princess story."

She said they were raised in San Fernando Valley in Southern California in an upper-middle-class home. The older Markle sister also revealed that their parents had been great, unlike what the tabloids insinuated.

HOW MEGHAN AND SAMANTHA SAW THEIR SISTERLY RELATIONSHIP

In March 2021, Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, sat down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey for CBS. When Winfrey asked the duchess about Samantha's tell-all book, "The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister" about her, Meghan said:

“I think it would be hard to ‘tell all’ when you don’t know me.”

Harry's wife also mentioned how she basically "grew up as an only child" and that the last time she saw her half-sister was 18 to 19 years ago. Before then, Meghan claimed she'd seen Samantha 10 years ago.

The royal also said her older sister only changed her last name from "Grant" back to "Markle" in her early 50s. The change also happened when Meghan started dating Harry and claimed that her half-sister didn't "know her."

Samantha disagreed with her sister's views of things and the claim that she didn't know her by noting the photos that showed them posing together. The images showed the pair through the years, with one of them taken in 2008 during a graduation.

The picture was taken 13 years before and contradicted Meghan's claims that they only saw each other around 18 years ago. The half-siblings have been clashing since Meghan married Harry in May 2018 in the UK.

Samantha has gone as far as criticizing the royal on social media and in the media on various shows. She and other family members, excluding Thomas Sr., weren't invited to the royal wedding, and that snub allegedly "hurt" Samantha.

The day after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's CBS interview aired, the latter's half-sister told "Fifi, Fev, and Nick," an Australian radio show, that Meghan had a "narcissistic personality disorder."

Samantha claimed she wasn't diagnosing Meghan but felt she needed a counselor. She also mentioned how she felt sorry for the Duke of Sussex because her sister pulled him away from his friends, family, and all he'd known.

Meghan's sister thought Harry suffered from Stockholm syndrome, as he felt he was in love with his captor, who happened to be Samantha's half-sister. When GB News' Dan Wootton asked Samantha if she still loved her younger sister, she explained:

“It’s really hard to love somebody who has caused so much pain to so many people.”

SAMANTHA'S DEFAMATION LAWSUIT AGAINST MEGHAN

After the Winfrey interview aired, TMZ revealed that Samantha was suing Meghan for defamation! The half-sibling was upset about some of the things that were said in public about the Markle family.

Samantha was suing her sister for the "rags to royalty" narrative, which she claimed was untrue. She felt the royal was spreading lies and trashing her name, giving the impression that her family members were leeches.

The lawsuit also challenged the difference in years that the sisters had allegedly not seen each other, Samantha's reasons for changing her last name, and the allegedly offensive idea that the royal grew up in "virtual poverty."

[Michael] Kump vowed to give the [Samantha Markle] lawsuit the minimum attention that was necessary which he felt was all it deserved.

Samantha noted how their father paid for Meghan's expensive private and exclusive schooling background, dancing, and acting classes. She also said Thomas Sr. covered the royal's Northwestern University living expenses and tuition.

On the other hand, Harry's wife told Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres that she worked to pay for her college education. Samantha felt her sister lied about her and their father to perpetuate the fairytale life story she put out in the media.

She claimed her half-sister's words hurt her autobiography sales, stopped her from acquiring work, and caused mental and emotional distress. Us Weekly revealed Samnthan sued for "anxiety and fear due to the threatening and violent emails and messages she receives regularly."

Meghan's sister felt the royal's words caused harm to her credibility and reputation, leading her to want more than $75,000.00 in damages despite claiming her family wasn't leeching! Samantha filed the summons on March 4, 2022, giving the duchess 21 days to answer.

According to TMZ, Harry's wife responded through her attorney Michael Kump who described the lawsuit as "baseless and absurd." Meghan's lawyer said it was a "continuation of a pattern of disturbing behavior."

Kump vowed to give the lawsuit the minimum attention that was necessary, which he felt was all it deserved. The feud between the sisters seems nowhere close to ending or mending, judging by the back-and-forth they keep going through.
