Akiley Love Talked about Her Acting Debut in 'Coming 2 America'

Akiley Love is a blossoming actress who made her debut in the sequel "Coming 2 America" as the wild and youngest of three princesses. Here's everything you need to know Love's experience acting in the film

According to her Youtube channel, 13-year-old Akiley Love is..." an actor who also loves making funny YouTube videos!" In one of her YouTube clips from 2018, which she made for anti-bullying month, she spoke about how to be happy and confident.

In the video, she provided five tips for her viewers: being kind, believing in oneself, being positive, having a growth mindset, and respecting others. She also encouraged her viewers to speak up about bullying.

Her energy radiates from the screen not only on YouTube but also while playing a role in director Craig Brewer's "Coming 2 America." In this film, the sequel to "Coming To America," an African monarch played by Eddie Murphy travels to the United States.

He goes there to find who he believes to be his long-lost son and heir to the throne. Eventually, the hesitant and supposed son agrees to go with the King to his country of origin.

AKILEY LOVE AND HER ROLE IN "COMING 2 AMERICA

Speaking of the film, Love stated that she enjoyed watching the original "Coming To America and watched it with her mom a lot. She stated:

"I've watched the movie plenty of times before I even auditioned for this. Whenever it comes on I'm always watching it with my mother in the living room."

She expressed that because the movie is so funny, she and her mom always laugh the whole way through. The young actress said that she loves both the original and the sequel.

Speaking about her character in the movie, Love explained that she plays one of the princesses, namely Tinashe. She is one of three daughters, she said, who is the most fun-loving and mischievous.

When asked what she thinks of Zamunda, the fictional African country the royal family comes from, Love answered that there are many things. The actress stated:

"It would have to be amazing black excellence with the fact that it's an African family that shows exactly what Africa is. They're amazing, and the fact that he gets to walk around with roses thrown at his feet and this royal family gets to sit on these thrones."

Love and her co-star Bella Murphy, who plays the middle child, Omma, were both asked what they thought their characters would do in the future. Murphy said Omma would probably do something to help combat climate change, while the younger star said her mischievous character would likely do "something wild."

The two were also asked what outfits they wore throughout the film. Love stated that she adored the elephant ring that she got to wear on set, saying:

"There would be these really cool hair designs that they would do and these outfits. I couldn't choose a favorite 'cause they're all really cool...these costumes were just amazing. I can't even put into words how cool they were."

Murphy was more specific, speaking about a yellow dress covered in petals. She stated that it looked gorgeous on-screen when they did bird-eye shots of her twirling in the ensemble.

THE COMING TO AMERICA STORY

Kiki Layne, the actress that plays the eldest sister Meeka, also spoke about the overall "Coming To America" storyline. She stated that she had been watching it since she was a child, saying it would always be funny. More importantly, she stated:

"For a lot of people that [movie] was the first time that people in African culture were represented [onscreen] as kings and queens, and rich, and had a wealth of resources and knowledge. To be a part of continuing that legacy is amazing.”

Meeka plays a significant role in the sequel. Having spent her entire life believing she was the heir, she finds out that she, as a woman, is forbidden and that her long-lost half-brother will be taking her presumed place.

She stated that she knows a lot of women, especially Black women, will resonate with this character, saying stories like this must be told. She expressed: "It's about strength, power, and ownership. Ownership of heritage, commerce, and life choices."
