Sister-In-Law Forces Woman to Pay $1000 Rent after Losing Her Home, They Later Trade Places
Families can be excellent sources of support, but they don't always extend the expected love or kindness. One woman experienced shocking treatment from her sister-in-law, and her story quickly gained online attention.
When tragedy strikes and people experience times of desperation, they turn to relatives for assistance. In many cases, loved ones step up to the plate to help their family members.
However, one woman learned firsthand that she couldn't rely on her husband's sister. Read her story and discover why she experienced the worst time of her life under her sister-in-law's roof.

THE FAMILY LOST EVERYTHING
In 2020, a woman and her family lost everything when lightning struck their home. Fortunately, her three kids were at school, and she and her husband were away at work when the fire burned their house.
The woman was surprised when she heard from her sister-in-law again—this time, she asked an unexpected question.
While it was a devastating incident, the family was grateful to be alive. Unfortunately, their insurance took nearly 11 months to pay for the damages and only covered one month's accommodation.

THEY MOVED IN WITH A FAMILY MEMBER
The family of five needed a place to live, and their only option was to move in with a relative. The woman was thankful that her sister-in-law opened her home to them. She said they were allowed to use the spare room and office space.
The sister-in-law charged $100 per week for the lodging and asked that her relatives pay for their food. The woman was satisfied with the terms, but everything changed three weeks after they moved in. She said:
"[My sister-in-law] then decides we need to pay her $250 a week and we can only use one room. So all 5 of us were crammed into the smallest room she had, which was the size of a glorified closet space."

THE WORST TIME OF HER LIFE
The woman shared that a twin-sized bed and small dresser couldn't fit into their shared room, forcing them to live out of trash bags.
They also slept on the floor and provided their own meals, spending a whopping $1000 for some months they lived there. The woman called it "the worst eight months of her life" and added:
"[My sister-in-law] also had no bills outside of her land tax ($450 a year), electric and heating oil (which she hardly ever filled). So we were essentially paying her so she could do leisure activities."

THE FAMILY GOT A NEW HOME
In 2022, the woman's grandmother moved into an assisted living center, leaving her five-bedroom home to her. The beautiful farmhouse suited their family perfectly, and the woman was extremely grateful.
They had come a long way since living with a family member and paying excessive amounts for a tiny bedroom. So the woman was surprised when she heard from her sister-in-law again—this time, the latter asked an unexpected question.

THE SITUATION CHANGED DRASTICALLY
The woman's sister-in-law had lost her house because she repeatedly failed to pay her land tax, and now she was the one needing a favor. The woman noted:
"[My sister-in-law] asked if she and her stepdaughter could stay with us until they had enough money to move down south."
The woman agreed and welcomed them into her home. While she had two bedrooms available, she only provided her sister-in-law access to one room and charged $800 a month.

THE WOMAN'S KARMIC REACTION
The woman indicated that her new house guests would need to buy and cook independently because one of her kids was vegan. The sister-in-law was shocked and said they shouldn't have to share a room and could not afford the rent and food.
However, the woman already had her answer prepared and delivered it karmically. She told her sister-in-law:
"We managed to cram 5 people into a glorified closet space while you were getting $1000 and foodstamps. Take it or leave it."

THE ONLINE OPINIONS
Her sister-in-law opted not to move in with them and made another plan. The woman asked netizens on Reddit if she behaved incorrectly or not. One user sided with the woman and said:
"It’s $250/month for the room and $750/month for you having to see her stupid face every day. You’re giving her an 80% discount on the rent because she’s family."
Someone added: "I so love petty when it is deserved. She deserves every bit of it." Another netizen thanked the woman for making them laugh, and a commenter stated: "Well played, Madam ... well played."

HER ACTIONS WERE LABELLED "CHILDISH"
Many netizens agreed that the woman's actions were justified, and one even highlighted that the sister-in-law was getting what she deserved. They noted: "Karma coming right back at her."
The woman also indicated that her husband's family believed she was being "childish" and suggested she learn to let go of the past. However, users in the comment section disagreed.
"Also [your husband's] family can take them in if they feel so generous and compassionate."

ALWAYS BE KIND
The woman's story teaches a lesson about kindness. If her sister-in-law had been caring and considerate, she would've had a place to stay when she fell on hard times.
We never know what hand in life we will be dealt, so we must treat everyone how we want to be treated. What do you think about the woman's actions and how she reacted when her sister-in-law needed help?
