Meghan Slammed for 'Desperate Measures' — Fans Believe She Will 'Never' Win a Style Contest with Kate

Duchess Meghan has often found herself under scrutiny by fans who always find things to judge her on. This time, an outfit she wore during an outing with her husband had tongues wagging - and not in a good way.

In July 2022, Duchess Meghan was spotted with her husband, Prince Harry, in New York City. The pair went out for supper at Locanda Verde after visiting the United Nations for Nelson Mandela Day celebrations.

Harry was dressed down in a navy shirt and pants and gray shoes. His wife wore a black-and-white Gabriela Hearst strapless black jumpsuit with black and white ties at the back and a thick white band at the top.

The jumpsuit also featured flared legs, with the Duchess of Sussex completing her look with black heels. Some social media users noticed how the outfit appeared to be the same as one that Duchess Kate, Harry's sister-in-law, wore during a recent outing.

During the May 2022 "Top Gun: Maverick" premiere, Prince William's wife wore a similar-looking gown, but Roland Mouret made this one. The dress also had a broad white band at the top and came in the same color, but the band was for Kate to slip her arms through.

The band on Meghan's jumpsuit ran over her chest and under her arms. Where her jumpsuit flared into two legs, on her sister-in-law's outfit, it was a long skirt that reached the floor and covered her feet.

The look-a-like outfits sparked comparisons between the two from social media users. One Twitter user replied below Page Six's post alleging that Harry's wife was taking "desperate measures" because she wanted "to be compared to Catherine," before adding:

"It’s all rather pathetic on Markle’s behalf. Maybe trying to get Tom’s attention."

The "Tom" the fan was referring to was probably the star of the movie Kate and William went to watch - Tom Cruise. Some else described Harry's wife as "unoriginal," while a third person thought the Duchess of Sussex was contending with the Duchess of Cambridge, writing:

"Meghan ain’t never gonna win that contest."

MEGHAN AND KATE LOOK LIKE "STYLE TWINS"

The incident in July 2022 wasn't the only time that Kate and Meghan have worn similar outfits. In April 2022, the Duchess of Sussex wore an all-white ensemble for her and her husband's first appearance at the Invictus Games in The Hague.

She wore a suit with an oversized buttoned-up blazer and wide-leg pants. Harry's wife accessorized her stunning look with a matching handbag and shoes, but weeks before, Kate was seen in a similar look.

In March 2022, William's wife was also wearing a white suit! The outfit featured a white blazer, matching pants, and heels, but she added color to her look with an orange top and a handbag.

In a sie-by-side Twitter post, People magazine described the sisters-in-law as "style twins." The post led to Meghan's critics coming out to judge her, with one person saying:

"They are not even close to style twins."

The person shared how the Duchess of Sussex's suit didn't fit her and thought the comparison was "an insult!" Another Twitter user showed how social media users took sides unnecessarily, writing how they felt Meghan looked "youthful and gorgeous" in her outfit.

The fan said they loved how she'd gone for all-white and looked "amazing." Someone else thought Harry's wife always got close to looking fabulous but spoilt her looks by not getting the correct sizes, noting:

"However, she hasn't done as badly as Justin Bieber, so there's that."

Replying to the previous person's criticism of Meghan, a Duchess of Sussex fan countered by stating that the royal always had "that young fresh face." The fan thought that was something no one else could copy.

THE STYLE COMPARISONS BETWEEN KATE AND MEGHAN OVER THE YEARS

Over the years, the two Duchesses have been compared against each other several times. People have noticed that the duo have similar clothing and style tastes, like the burgundy dress Meghan once wore in October 2018.

She wore the & Other Stories printed gown while out in Fraser Island. A few days earlier, her sister-in-law wore a similar long-sleeve polka dot dress in the same color, but Whistles created her's.

At the time, Kate had attended Radio One's Teen Heroes reception at Kensington Palace a few days earlier. In May 2016, Harry's wife twinned with William's wife in a blue wrap-around dress while attending an Instagram dinner in Toronto.

The outfit matched Kate's gown in November 2010 during her engagement photo call with her husband. In February 2018, Meghan again matched with her sister-in-law while visiting Scotland with Harry.

She wore a Burberry coat that mimicked Kate's Alexander McQueen coatdress that she was seen in at the St. Andrew's Day festival in 2012. In February 2015, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a long-sleeved white coat that reached above her knees.

She visited Ben Ainslie Racing's (BAR) headquarters in Portsmouth Old Town in England. Two years later, Meghan appeared in a similar coat during the official announcement of her engagement to Harry at Kensington Palace.

Before Meghan even became a royal, in July 2016, she wore a red sleeveless dress during a "Today" show taping in New York City. Months later, in September, Kate wore a similar one in Victoria, Canada.

Despite their style similarities, the two Duchesses were believed to have a problematic relationship. In March 2021's CBS tell-all interview between the Sussexes and Oprah Winfrey, Meghan spoke about an incident that once occurred with Kate.

She revealed how William's wife made her cry before she and Harry married. In December 2021, a People magazine source claimed Kate was "really, really upset" over the estrangements between the Cambridges and the Sussexes.

However, when she started seeing photos of the Duchess of Sussex, she noticed how Meghan allegedly mimicked [Princess] Diana's gestures and the clothes she wore.

In March 2022, a royal expert told The Mirror that the Duchess of Cambridge thought it "mortifying" when her sister-in-law spoke about her to Winfrey. The royal said she wouldn't forget how Meghan treated her but wanted their feud to end.

COMPARING MEGHAN TO THE LATE PRINCESS DIANA

Not only has Meghan been accused of copying Kate, but she's also faced the same criticism concerning her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. On the post where her jumpsuit was compared to Kate's dress, one person wrote:

"Meagan [sic] copies kate or Diana always! Make your own way!"

The social media user wasn't the only one who made the alleged link. In August 2021, Meghan's estranged half-sister, Samantha Markle, told GB News that she hadn't initially noticed whether the royal had an obsession with her husband's late mother or not.

However, she claimed to see some signs of her having an "unhealthy obsession" with the People's Princess after Meghan became part of the British Royal Family. Samantha said she thought all young girls fantasized about being princesses when Diana was alive.

However, when she started seeing photos of the Duchess of Sussex, she noticed how Meghan allegedly mimicked Diana's gestures and the clothes she wore. She claimed her younger half-sister studied the Royal Family's lives because it was where she wanted to be.
