York Banks Asla Is Tyra Banks’ Six-Year-Old Son - Facts to Know About Him

York Banks Asla is the son of American TV personality Tyra Banks. The model, who struggled to conceive, had her firstborn via surrogate. Tyra Bank's son is now six years old.

York Banks Asla was born via surrogate in January 2016. His parents are Tyra Banks and Erik Alsa. York's father is a photographer, and he met Tyra on the Norwegian version of her series "Top Model."

The 6-year-old's parents started dating in 2013; however, they separated in 2017. The couple had trouble conceiving, with Tyra reportedly trying to get pregnant numerous times by in vitro fertilization.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2018 about her struggles with conceiving, Tyra said:

"Yeah, I don't remember if it was, 'Am I less than a woman?' But I remember just thinking, 'Oh my god, I waited too long, like, why did I do this?'"

MEET YORK BANKS ASLA - TYRA BANKS' SON

Tyra revealed in a statement to People in late 2016 that she and her then-boyfriend Asla had their first child together via surrogacy. The businesswoman stated how excited the new parents were to finally have their bundle of joy after their difficulty trying to have York Banks Asla.

The happy new mom also shared the great news on her Instagram by posting an image of a beanie with part of the caption saying:

"The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here. He's got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik's mouth and chin. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world."

Tyra started being proud of her son before he turned two years old and said he had impressive skills. When York was over a year and a half old, his mom expressed how smart her little one was. She said York "is amazing with colors" and also revealed that at that age, her son was also able to count up to 20.

The 48-year-old TV personality's son, who she described as "really, really smart," is also great with languages. According to his mom, York could speak three languages: English, Norwegian and Spanish.

Despite all these impressive traits that Tyra claimed her son had, she said York was still acting like a baby, "rolling on the floor and not listening to me most of the time."

Like most parents, the producer had to do her share of homeschooling during the lockdown. When it comes to what York might grow up to become one day, Tyra has said that she doesn't want him to model.

However, she won't discourage York if he wants to one day. York's mom said in 2018 to People that if York does become a model, she will tell him "how to smize."

York Banks Asla's father, Erik Asla, born in Norway, moved to Los Angeles to get work. He began dating Tyra after she was introduced to him.

The two were on the set of "Norway's Next Top Model," where Erik was a judge in the show. Following his appearance in the series, he joined the "America's Next Top Model" cast as a photographer from 2014 to 2015.

Tyra Banks and Erik Asla tried to keep their relationship under wraps. However, news that the two were dating reached the public after being spotted kissing and holding hands during a date.

The couple's romance lasted five years, and they reportedly went their separate ways in October 2017. According to a source, their breakup was "drama-free."

The former couple has since been co-parenting and working amicably. Perhaps York Banks Asla will follow the same path as his parents in the modeling industry.
