Queen Elizabeth II always believed that the family feuds happening with her son and grandsons could be resolved, and she always hoped that Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, could reconcile with his father, King Charles.

According to Royal Historian Robert Hardman, Harry and the Queen adored each other, and it broke the Queen's heart that the prince did not get along well with his father and brother.

In the years after Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, quit their duties as working royals in early 2020 and relocated to the US, the Queen became the conduit between California, and Windsor, where all his family was.

It was her dearest wish that Harry would resolve issues with his family before she died. An insider told People that the Queen never held grudges and understood that conflicts were an inevitable part of life. But most importantly, she hoped to see her family reconciled and happy.

Sadly, she did not live to see her final wish fulfilled as Harry and the rest of his family members never reached a consensus and remained as estranged as they had for the last few years. However, the family is not where they were before the Queen's death. There has been some progress, and they appear to be on better terms.

Harry Missed Flight Due to an Argument with His Father

The Queen's death hit Harry hard, particularly because he missed his last moments with her. Harry reportedly missed his flight to Balmoral and consequently his final moments with his grandmother due to a disagreement with his father.

According to Dailymail, an argument had ensued between Harry and his father, King Charles, after the new monarch banned Harry's wife, Meghan joining the grieving royal family at Balmoral on the day the Queen passed away.

Reports claim that King Charles called his son, letting him know it was inappropriate for Meghan to join the family. Harry tried persuading his father to let her travel to Balmoral, but King Charles was adamant.

In his fury and anger towards his father, Harry missed his flight to Aberdeen, which was also carrying his brother William and their uncles Andrew and Edward to Scotland. A missed flight meant he also lost his chance to bid farewell to his grandmother.

He took a later flight that only landed after the Queen had passed away and the announcement had been made to the world. The ensuing row between father and son led to Harry refusing to have dinner with his father, brother, and the Queen Consort at Balmoral.

Instead, he chose to dine with his uncles Prince Andrew, Duke of York, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and Sophia, Countess of Wessex, and took the earliest British Airways flight back to his wife in London. DailyMail reports:

"It was a massive snub. And [Harry] got out of Balmoral at the earliest opportunity to catch the first commercial flight back to London."

Previous reports claimed that Harry had learned of his grandmother's death from an official announcement. However, a royal insider now says that King Charles called his youngest son as he was mid-flight to Aberdeen and only minutes before the official statement from Buckingham Palace was released.

According to the source, by the time Harry landed at Aberdeen airport, the whole world was aware that the monarch had passed away. The source said as Sky News reports:

“The King was adamant that the official statement must not be released until all members of the family had been informed. That was a father talking because he cares.”

Reports claim that members of the royal family were informed about the Queen's deteriorating state the day before her death, but they did not think it was so severe that they had to rush there that night.

Unfortunately, on Thursday, September 8 morning, her condition worsened, and the Queen's helicopter was sent to collect King Charles from Luton Airport in London. Reports say King Charles called William and Harry later that morning to inform them that they needed to be by their grandmother's side as time was running out.

William reportedly received the call first, and when Harry received his, the disagreement about his wife flying with him ensued, causing him to miss his flight.

There Have Been Efforts to Mend Fences

Harry's estranged relationship with his family has been ongoing for years, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. TV personality Gayle King says there have been efforts to mend fences. She said during an interview with Extra, as Us Weekly reports:

"There have been efforts on both sides to sort of make this right. We shall see."

She noted that while she had no inside information and was unsure if the royals would get closer or fall further apart, it was good to see Harry stand with the family during their grief.

Harry and Meghan joined the rest of the royals in their processions and holding vigils for the Queen, which King says is a step towards mending their broken relationship. King Charles also acknowledged his love for his son and daughter-in-law and wished them well as they built their lives in the US.

The Queen's unfortunate demise may have been a new dawn for the family she left behind, as it appears that reconciliation is not too far off.

According to broadcaster and author Anna May Mangan, the monarch may have entered an era when he needs all the support he can get from his closest family members, including Harry.

She, however, claims that Harry and Meghan might want to sabotage his attempts and therefore needed to be moved to "one side" — the King's side. Many are urging His Majesty, the King, to put aside any pressure and concentrate on the crucial role ahead.
