Sarah Jakes Roberts on the Moment She Knew Her Husband Is Her Soulmate

Sarah Jakes Roberts, the daughter of Bishop TD Jakes, saw herself as the black sheep of the family, but that changed when she met her husband and soulmate, Touré Roberts.

After falling pregnant when she was only 13 years old, she received a lot of scrutiny, with many questioning how a child of a pastor as adored as TD Jakes could end up as a teenage mother. However, her parents continued to stand by her side through it all and helped her come out the other side of her hardships.

Fast forward to 2022, she has just recently as the successor to her father as the leader of The Potter's House, one of the biggest churches in the United States. There have been many important moments in her motivational story and the moment she went on her first day with her current husband is one of them.

Sarah Jakes Knew Her Husband Touré Roberts Was Her Soul Mate

Sarah and Roberts began their harmonious and prosperous relationship in the spring of 2014. From the moment they met on their first date, Sarah already felt that Roberts was the man supposed to be her life partner. Speaking about their first date, she declared:

"Everything from him watching how I came down the stairs to him opening the door for me at the restaurant, it made me feel like for the first time in a very, very long time, I could be a soft, feminine, dainty woman and fall into the arms of a real man that could hold me down.”

The loving couple was joined in holy matrimony a few months after the unforgettable first date moment. It was the second marriage for both, and the Christian couple has gone on to more incredible things and has recently added to their family.

They Have Children Together

The ONE Church Senior Pastors, Sarah Jakes and Touré Roberts, have six kids. The couple both had kids before their union. Jakes Roberts' had two kids, one from her teenage years and one from her previous marriage. Touré had three kids from his past marriage as well.

However, Sarah Jakes Roberts withstood the pressure and came out of it a stronger person.

They have since had one child together. The family was ecstatic about adding to their brood. Commenting on having a child with Touré, Jakes Roberts remarked, "having a child together is the organic overflow of the love that we have been so blessed to share."

Sarah Jakes Roberts' Had Been Married before Touré Roberts

Before Sarah began her relationship with Roberts, she had already married and divorced her first husband, former American football player Robert Henson. She revealed that marriage to Henson was not easy, and it had a damaging effect on her. Speaking at an Essence workshop on empowerment, she noted:

“In my previous marriage I was nearly arrested. I mean I showed my tail, okay? So being vulnerable and being treated like a lady wasn’t something that I had really become accustomed to because I was so used to being tough and taking care of myself.”

Luckily, the damage was not long-lived. After four years of marriage, the couple parted ways in 2012. Two years afterward, Sarah and Roberts began their relationship, which they have acknowledged has been a massive blessing.

The Beginning of Sarah Jakes Roberts's Holy Orders

Sarah is the eldest daughter of Bishop TD Jakes and Serita Jakes. Born on July 17, 1988, she is the fourth oldest of her parents' children. Growing up in a family with strong Christian values, she, like her siblings, performed different roles under the watchful eye of their parents.

However, it was not until 2014 that Sarah delivered her first sermon, a Mother's Day message, at One Church, which marked the beginning of her successful journey in ministry. One Church is a Christian church where Sarah and her husband, Touré Roberts, are currently co-pastors.

In addition to being a preacher at One Church, she also leads an organization that seeks to empower women called Woman Evolve, which she founded in 2017. The organization is well supported by her father, who had established a similar body called Woman Thou Art Loosed decades earlier.

Sarah's childhood was not the ideal childhood that many would assume a preacher's child to have. At 13, she was already a mother and was married at 19 to a person who was not her first child's father. She had another child during that marriage, but the marriage ended four years later.

At 23, she was already a single mother of two boys. Coming from a family that lives in the spotlight due to her father's exploits did not help her cause. The constant scrutiny and the feeling of letting her people down haunted her everywhere she went.

However, Sarah Jakes Roberts withstood the pressure and became a stronger person. Her journey in ministry started as a favor for her mother, but it soon turned into her passion, something that she never imagined happening after all she had been through up to that point.

As an inspirational speaker, it is poetic that she has lived through a moving story herself and has first-hand knowledge of what it means to come back after being knocked down so many times. Her story is one that she hopes will continue to be shared.
