Celeste Wilson lived with her teenage daughter, Olivia Schultz, and five other children on the northern side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 46-year-old mother loved her children and wished to see them succeed in life.

Schultz was Wilson's youngest child and loved cooking food for her siblings. She wished to work as a chef one day, but fate had other plans. A heartbreaking tragedy took her life the day after she made chili cheese fries for her brothers.

Unloading Groceries

It was a usual day for Schultz and Wilson when they went grocery shopping on October 10, 2022. The mother-daughter duo shopped for the things they needed and loaded their bags in the car before heading home.

They reached home around 6 p.m. and stepped out of their car to unload their groceries. At that point, Wilson noticed some men looking at them and roaming near her vehicle. What happened next was something she had never imagined.

A few moments later, neighbors heard gunshots and were shocked to see an injured Wilson. Soon, Wilson and Schultz were rushed to the hospital, but the teenager succumbed to her injuries.

The Heartbroken Mother

Doctors treated Wilson for her injuries and soon released her from the hospital, but the devastated mother couldn't stop thinking about her daughter's tragic death. She said:

"If she was around, she was smiling. She never really had no bad, no negative attitudes towards anything."

"Even if you were mean to her, she gave you a second chance," Wilson added. The heartbroken mother remembered Schultz as a sweet girl who "always had a smile on her face."

Police Reports

Per the police, the suspected shooters often stayed at the abandoned property near Wilson's house. The police reports said that Wilson told the suspects to move their stolen cars from the alley, but she disputed those claims.

Per the authorities, they had some leads about the suspects but still hadn't caught anyone.

"I just want her back. I don't know what I'm going to do," Wilson said. Schultz studied at Audubon Middle School, and Wilson had prayed her daughter would achieve more in her life until the heartbreaking incident claimed the little one's life.

An Unexpected Incident

Wilson couldn't understand why the shooters took her little one's life. Meanwhile, the police investigation continued, but they couldn't catch the suspects. Wilson said:

"This was senseless. Y'all took somebody that was probably going to change the world. [sic]"

"I am extremely saddened by the murder of a twelve-year-old girl last evening," Mayor Cavalier Johnson said. He condemned the act of violence and extended his sympathies to the family.

Remembering the Teenager

A day after Wilson's daughter's death, her loved ones gathered to remember her and released dozens of balloons to honor the innocent girl. Her parents now had to prepare for her funeral instead of watching Schultz play with her friends and ride her favorite scooter.

Per the authorities, they had some leads about the suspects but still hadn't caught anyone. Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said:

"This is another inexcusable act of violence in our city. We are working to do our part."
