Robin Williams was known for his bright smile and quick wit, but his third wife, Susan, got to know him on a much deeper level and fell in love with the person behind the comedy.
She was also the person who stood by his side during the darkest time of his life and had the opportunity to spend his final days on this earth with him. She has often spoken about their life together.

Today would have been Robin and Susan's 11th wedding anniversary if the actor hadn't tragically passed away in 2014. The pair shared a lovely union until Robin fell ill and lost the battle with his illness.
Susan and Robin met in an Apple store in 2007. Susan recalled seeing him there and wondering if it was him. When he was walking out, she could clearly see it was, so she decided to talk to him.
The comedian's wife mentioned that he was wearing a camo shirt, which she used as a talking point. She asked him how effective the camo shirt was in disguising him, and he said it wasn't because she had seen him.

The pair began dating soon after that and then got married four years later. It was the actor's third marriage, while it was Susan's second. They lived together with Susan's sons from a previous relationship.
Two years after the couple got married, Robin began experiencing strange symptoms that led to him needing a major operation. Susan nursed her husband back to health after the surgery in 2009.
The Couple's California Home
Robin, Susan, and her sons lived in a home in California before his death. They lived in a six-bedroom, six-and-a-half-bathroom estate in Tiburon, California. It was a Mediterranean-style home set on the water.
The home was one level but spanned 6 500 square feet and had direct access to the Bay from the back of the house. It also had a pool and plenty of space where Robin and Susan could entertain.
The 10-foot windows in the home allowed the space to feel light and airy. It was built in1987 but was remodeled in 2000. The living room, dining room, media room, and eat-in kitchen were on the home's right-hand side.

The master suite, where Robin and Susan spent much of their time, had direct access to the back deck. It also featured two walk-in closets, an en-suite bathroom, and a study.
Each of the other rooms in the house also included en-suite bathrooms, and one of the rooms even had built-in bunk beds. The home was put on the market after Robin's death.
The home was listed in 2019 for $7.25 million and was eventually sold in 2020 for $5.35 million. The house was placed on the market after Robin's children and Susan settled a heated legal battle.
The Couple's Life Together
Susan has often spoken about what it was like for her to be married to a big celebrity who had stolen the hearts of millions with his comedy. She said that at home, he was just an ordinary man.

However, she never found their life together boring and mentioned that they often did things together that allowed them to remain close to one another. She said they were interested in the same things.
Susan is an artist and said that Robin was a history buff, leading them to enjoy going to museums together. She shared:
"Robin and I loved to go to museums together. He was a big history buff, so he would bring the history, and I would bring the art side, and we would double our fun. People tend to assume that the guy he was on stage was the guy he was at home, and let me make it clear: I would never marry somebody like that."

She then said that he was quiet when he was at home and that his comedic side only came out when he was working. She also described her husband as an intellectual man at home.
Robin's Last Words to His Wife
Because of Robin's illness, he and Susan did not share a bed. However, they spent most nights together before they went to sleep. One night in particular sticks out in Susan's mind as it was the last time she spoke to her husband.

Susan said that on the night before her husband passed away, he offered to give her a foot rub, but she declined. She admitted that Robin looked sad that she had said no, and now she wished that she had accepted.
She also confessed that he had come into the room several times before he finally went to bed. The couple's last words to one another were "Goodnight, my love," and Robin passed away the following day.
The following day, Susan asked Robin's assistant to phone her when he woke up. When midday came, and Susan had not heard from Robin's assistant, she began to worry.

Susan phoned Robin's assistant and told her to go and check on him. Robin's assistant found him unresponsive in his bedroom, and she called 911. Robin had already passed away when first responders got to the home.
After Robin passed away, Susan quickly shared a tribute to her husband, saying what a wonderful man he was and how much he had impacted her life since they had met years before.

Talking about Robin's passing that morning, Susan shared her feelings, saying:
"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings."
She then asked that the family be given the time and privacy to grieve their loss. She also shared her hope that Robin's situation would inspire people to get the help they needed for any challenge they were facing.
