Kane Brown Gives Kids Life He 'Never Had' after Stepdad Abused Him for Years While They Lived in Poverty
Kane Brown had a terrible childhood caused by a series of abusive stepdads. Luckily, he turned his life around and made a fantastic career for himself. The Birth of his kids changed his life, and he's happy he can give them the life he never had.
Kane Brown is the freshest face in country music, and he's making waves. Besides being one of the only biracial artists in the genre, he doesn't dress in the usual cowboy hats and jeans attire like many other country singers.
Instead, the Tennessee native wears ballcaps and sleeveless shirts that show off his many tattoos. But his style isn't the only thing that makes him stand out. Kane's lyrics focus on things that many listeners can relate to. He sings about all the hardships he's had to face in his life, including the trauma he experienced as a kid.
His experiences growing up are prominent sources of inspiration for the singer. He opened up about his life as a child, saying he grew up mainly in Tennessee, but his family used to move often, so he never had a concrete home. He mentioned he also had very little stability when it came to his family structure:
"[I] had to grow up a lot faster than a normal person... Just, you know, moving around a lot. And then no father figure. Child abuse."
During the course of his childhood, the singer had multiple stepdads, each one of them as bad as the next. He remembers some of them being highly disciplinarian. Besides this, his family was poor, and they always stressed about their finances. "I'm used to having to worry every day," the singer said.
When he moved out of his mom's house, his financial worries seemed to multiply. Suddenly, he had so much more to pay for, and he had to find a source of income. Meanwhile, all he really wanted to do was pursue a career in music. So, he took a tedious delivery job while he worked to become a musician in his free time.
Kane's "Crazy Childhood"
Kane shared some of the more vivid stories from when he was a kid, and said he had a "crazy childhood." His stepfathers were often lousy role models, leaving him with many bad memories. Moving around so regularly meant he could never settle in and create a life for himself.
The country star mentioned that his daughters have changed his entire perspective on life.
When the time came for him to go off on his own, he decided to forge a path for himself as a musician. But being successful and making enough money to survive while he was undiscovered turned out to be a real challenge.
The University of Tennessee in Chattanooga offered him a basketball scholarship, but the headstrong young man turned it down to do what he loved. Eventually, he had to find some form of financial security, so he enrolled in the military. They turned him down when they saw his neck tattoos.
Eventually, he secured a job as a delivery guy for FedEx. Although the pay wasn't tremendous, the position did offer him the free time he needed to get his music career off the ground. He raced around in his free time, finding places to sing and learning the ins and outs of the music industry. He recalled:
"[I was] traveling back and forth to Nashville in my 2002 Honda that wouldn't go over 4,000 RPMs, hoping that things would work before my car blew up."
Slowly, he built himself a reputation, and after a while, his dedication paid off. The band Florida Georgia Line started to notice him and gave him an opening slot on their 2016 arena tour. Soon after, Kane's song "What Ifs" popped up at no. 1 on the Hot Country Songs billboard.
Kane's Success Gave His Kids His Dream Childhood
Soon after he scored a no. 1 spot on the billboards, it became clear that Kane was going places. His EP was released and sold brilliantly, and he has already started planning his next release. On top of his success, the singer is married to Katelyn Jae Brown, and the pair had two daughters together.
Kane takes his role as a family man just as seriously as he takes his music career. Considering the difficult circumstances he grew up in, it's no wonder the musician vowed to give a better life to his daughters, Kodi Jane and Kingsley Rose Brown. He commented on his approach to fatherhood:
"[I] always knew that I was gonna try to be there. I just always wanted to give them the life that I never had."
The country star mentioned that his daughters have changed his entire perspective on life. He said his oldest daughter, Kingsley, is his best friend and commented, "She's just fun, she makes my days better." He also elaborated on how his view of life changed since he had his kids:
"I would say I was never like a big baby person. Then I had my baby, and it's just changed the way I look at other babies now. Especially if I see one that used to be the size of her when she was an infant, I just want to hold him, just to remember what it felt like."
As a proud father and husband, Kane loves to show off his family on Instagram. In October, he posted a photo of the family dressed in matching red, black, and grey outfits to celebrate the basketball team, the Bulldogs.
Along with them in the picture are the family's two dogs. Kane captioned the post by saying, "Put go dawgs on my head stone 🤘🏾." The singer and his wife are smiling contentedly in the photo, each holding one of their daughters.
