Katherine 'Kady' Allen Tries to Stay Out of the Public Eye as Tim Allen's Daughter

Katherine "Kady" Allen, Tim Allen's daughter, has steered clear of the spotlight despite her father's fame. While the actor said he loved being a father, he shared that he rarely spent time with his eldest daughter and let his family "slide" after achieving fame.

Tim has been a regular face in the Hollywood acting scene for over two decades. His work ranges from hit TV shows like "Home Improvement" and "Last Man Standing" to movies like "The Santa Clause" and "Toy Story."

He welcomed Katherine during his first marriage to Laura Deibel. Tim and Laura were high school sweethearts and tied the knot in 1984 but later divorced in 2003 due to his busy work schedule, which was also the reason he lost out on spending time with his daughter.

The Birth of Katherine Allen

Before Katherine was born, her parents learned that there was a possibility she would have a congenital genetic disability. Her parents' doctor was worried, and a specialist said whatever caused the potential disability could have swung either way. Tim said:

"It's a horror that a lot of people go through. I understand it."

Fortunately, Katherine was born healthy in 1989, and Tim said he loved being a father. He is a jokester and said he enjoyed cracking jokes and trying to make his daughter laugh. But it was to no avail, as he humorously revealed in an interview in 2017 that Katherine would just roll her eyes.

Kady's Childhood Was Filled with Father's Absence

In 1995, Tim released his book "Don't Stand Too Close to a Naked Man," and spoke candidly about being conflicted whenever he spent much-needed time with his daughter. On the one hand, the actor wanted his relationship to continue to grow when Katherine was a little girl.

Her dad joked that he would give her mom a few dollars to spend on a day out so he could spend time with Katherine. Her favorite thing was to take baths with her dad, although she was a little scared of the jets in the jacuzzi.

"We've got so much to do, dad," Katherine would say, as they rarely saw each other, and the pair would spend their nights playing with dolls.

On the other hand, Tim admitted that his inner "lunatic" would encourage him to get a drink and leave. When he met Katherine's mother, he was still an unknown actor. As his popularity skyrocketed, he started spending less and less time with Katherine. During an interview in 1995, Tim said:

"I never see my daughter at all. I let my family slide."

While some of her father's friends, like George Kutlenios and Rob Cowin, Katherine's Godfather, held out hope that her parents would rekindle their marriage, it did not happen.

After fifteen years of marriage, Katherine's parents parted ways. Her mother sought custody of her and cited irreconcilable differences as the cause of the end of their marriage.

In 1999, four days before her mother filed for divorce, Katherine's parents took her to the premiere of "Toy Story 2" in Los Angeles. Their marriage may have ended, but Katherine's parents presented a united front as they attended the premiere together and still shared a home.

Since then, Katherine has grown up out of the limelight; she did not have any social media at the time of writing, but she did walk the carpet at the premiere of "Toy Story 4" in 2019 with her father, stepmother, and stepsister.

Kady's Younger Stepsister

Katherine's father remarried actress Jane Hajduk in 2006, and according to reports, Katherine grew close to her stepmother. After tying the knot, Tim and Jane welcomed a daughter, Elizabeth. Tim Allen's daughter was born three years after he and Jane married in 2009.

Katherine was present the day her sister was born, but her father beat her to be the first person to hold Elizabeth. Elizabeth has followed in her father's footsteps and, with a helping hand from her famous dad, landed a role in "The Santa Clauses."
