Hollywood Actress Kathryn Hahn thinks that although her children find some of her acting embarrassingly funny, they are still proud of her work. Hahn has two children, Leonard and Mae, with fellow actor Ethan Sandler.

The Hahn-Sandler household seems filled with lots of fun and laughter due to Hahn's easy approach to parenthood and her children catching on to her comedic views on many things. From Hahn's interviews where she talks about her kids, it is not hard to see the incredible bond she has with her children.

The proud mother of two has written a children's book with the help of her daughter, who inspired her to begin the project just by talking about her day. Meanwhile, her relationship with her son is the typical mother-teenager relationship. Her son seems embarrassed by some of her fantasy acting scenes.

Leonard Sandler

The timeline of Hahn's pregnancy with Leonard is shrouded in mystery. Many fans did not even know she was pregnant, as the couple never confirmed it. Still, it is estimated that Leonard's date of birth was either October or November 2006.

According to his mother, Leonard makes fun of her character as a villainous witch in the Marvel TV series "WandaVision." On one occasion, he was embarrassed when he walked in on his mom practicing her witch moves. His mother noted that his reaction was as though he had seen her coming out of the shower.

However, Hahn believes that Leonard is proud of her acting, noting, "No one can really admit to their mom that they're cool, which I understand and respect, but they definitely were a little bit, I would just say, suspiciously nicer to me these days. So I feel like I'm going to take that as a huge compliment. They're definitely proud for sure."

Mae Sandler

On July 27, 2009, Hahn and Ethan Sandler added a new member to their family, a baby girl. Her parents gave her the name Mae at birth. The delivery of Mae was a difficult moment for her mother as she spent two days in labor. Mae was born a few weeks before her expected due date in September.

Still, the baby weighed in at a good 5 lbs and, along with her mother, did not experience too many complications after the birth. However, the making of the movie "How Do you Know?" had to be halted because of Hahn's delivery. Hahn's water had broke during filming, and she still had one more scene to shoot.

Mae and her mother often do things together. One of the most significant things they did was to write a children's book published in 2018. Although Mae had little input in writing, she was the main inspiration behind the book. Hahn noted that she came up with the book idea from listening to her daughter's narrations about her day.

The Father of Leonard and Mae Is Also Famous

Hahn and her husband, Ethan Sandler, are both involved in the filmmaking industry. Ethan has more diverse roles in the industry as an actor, producer, and writer.

However, he is not as famous as his wife. This is probably due to his less prominent and much fewer appearances in movies. He has been involved in both film and television, playing minor roles in shows like "Will and Grace" and "Sex and the City" and movies such as "The Princess Diaries" and "The Bourne Supremacy."

His most significant appearance on screen came in the crime drama "Crossing Jordan," where he portrayed ADA Jeffrey Brandau in 15 episodes. Ethan's work behind the scenes includes being an executive producer in "New Girl," "We Are Men," and "Man with a Plan." He has also been a writer for "My Boys" and "Whitney."

Ethan was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on December 3, 1972. Not much is known about his childhood. Nevertheless, he attended Northwestern University in Illinois, where he met Kathryn Hahn. They were both studying theater.

The two began dating while in college and moved in together after graduation. Ethan would later wed Hahn in 2002. They welcomed their first child, Leonard, in 2006. In 2009, their second child, May, was born.

In addition to sharing children, the college sweethearts have also shared the screen. They appeared in "Crossing Jordan" together, portraying an engaged couple. At one point during the show, Hahn's character was pregnant with Ethan's character's baby.

Hahn was called a 'Geriatric Mother'

Hahn got personal in 2018 during an interview with the Associated Press to promote "Private Life," a Netflix film about a couple struggling with fertility. Hahn revealed that she had a disappointing encounter with a doctor who called her a 'geriatric mother' when she was pregnant with her daughter at 35. She noted:

“I remember a very insensitive doctor calling me a ‘geriatric mother ’. I was like, [exaggerated gasp]. I’m in a similar situation where I have pals that are like that too and I think the most sensitive thing is just [to realize] it’s not our business.”

Kathryn Hahn denounced that kind of thinking and encouraged people to stop trying to give their opinions and advice to everyone, especially when they have not been in that person's shoes. No one knows where each person's path will lead them.

She added that nowadays, families are made in many different ways, and there are more varied ways to become parents than before. Even mothering and parenthood have become different for almost everyone. Hence, there is no need to subscribe to one particular way.
