Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Jones rose to fame for her comedic prowess as an actress, writer, and producer. Her talent as a comedian saw her land gigs such as an actor and writer on "SNL" and sharing the silver screen with celebrities like Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy.

While receiving praise and award nominations left, right, and center, the "Ghostbusters" actress revealed that she was not having as much success in her love life as in her professional one.

Leslie Jones Was Once Falsely Rumored to Be Married to Kate McKinnon

Jones and McKinnon met on the set of "SNL." While McKinnon had been a regular on the show first and got her start in 2012, Jones joined the cast in 2014 before leaving in 2019 to pursue other projects.

While their friendship blossomed during their time together on "SNL," McKinnon said it reached new heights after they worked together on Paul Feig's reboot of "Ghostbusters." She said:

"Leslie and I have worked together for two years at 'SNL.' We were very close by the time we got there to film and got so much closer, pathologically closer, over the course of the summer, in fact."

Jones and McKinnon starred alongside Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy in the reboot of "Ghostbusters." The movie received mixed responses from fans and replaced the original cast with an all-female cast in 2016.

In 2018, Jones took to social media to share a video of herself and McKinnon dancing on Twitter and wrote in the caption, "Kate McKinnon, I love you."

Their close bond and affectionate moments during red-carpet appearances and on social media were mistaken for a romantic relationship they kept private when they were falsely accused of getting married in January 2021.

One internet ad featured Jones and McKinnon hugging, followed by the headline "Celeb Couples We Totally Forgot Were Married." A second claimed McKinnon and Jones were among "17 LGBTQ Celebs that Overcome Many Challenges and Eventually Became Couples."

After clicking the link to the ad, it led to a multiple-page slide show that did not feature Jones and McKinnon. McKinnon rarely spoke publicly about her personal life but confirmed her sexuality when she made her relationship with actress and photographer Jackie Abbott public.

The two actresses attended the 2017 Emmy Awards together and posed for a picture with a mutual friend and "RuPaul's Drag Race" judge Michelle Visage.

Visage confirmed Abbott as McKinnon's girlfriend after posting the group picture to Instagram and calling them both sweet. McKinnon publicly came out as gay in 2020 after she presented Ellen DeGeneres with the Carol Burnett Award at the 2020 Golden Globes.

On the other hand, Jones confirmed she was not gay but joked she would be "the worst lesbian" during her appearance on "Conan." She said:

"If I was gay, I would be crushing. I would have so many women. If I was gay, I would be the worst lesbian ever because I would have so many girlfriends."

During her "Conan" interview, Jones further said she suspected she was not finding luck on the dating scene because men feared her. While her male counterparts found dating easy, she humorously said her physique intimidated men.

During a section of her interview, Jones and Conan O'Brien skimmed the audience for a potential suitor, and when a young man cheered loudly for Jones, she jokingly turned him down and said he was too young.

However, she did share on the show that she was seeing someone. As the crowd cheered, the former "SNL" star said she wanted to keep her relationship under wraps. But she later revealed on Twitter that what she had said was not true and that she was not dating anyone.

In her Tweet, Jones said she wanted to let everyone know "there was never a secret boyfriend." She ended the tweet by writing, "I have terrible luck with men. They do not like me, lol." While her relationship status remained single, Jones was forthcoming about what she liked in a man. She said:

"I like a dude that makes me laugh, and it's not hard to make me laugh — it really isn't — because I like the goofiest things. I love goofy men."

People Were Shipping Leslie Jones with Her On-Screen Husband Kyle Mooney

Mooney and Jones sparked dating rumors after co-starring as love interests in "SNL" comedy sketches. In a 2016 skit titled "Love and Leslie," Jones and Mooney teased that they had a secret office romance. The video had over thirty thousand likes at the time of writing.

"SNL" took the sketch and ran with it. In 2017, Jones and Mooney starred in "Kyle and Leslie," a documentary-type skit that followed their relationship and Jones' on-screen crush on fellow "SNL" actor and husband of Scarlett Johansson, Colin Jost.

Jones and Mooney convincingly played a couple in love and left fans wondering if they were in a relationship in real life. The skit ran until 2019 and saw their characters get married and have children until Leslie Jones left the show. However, she confirmed that they were not dating.
