When Plaza was 16, she dated a student from Sweden who may have been her first true love. She even followed him to Sweden after failing to get over him, only to find out he already had another girl with whom he had moved in.

Six years after co-starring in a film, Plaza admitted to having dated Canadian actor Michael Cera for over a year and almost got married at some stage. However, she ended up getting married to Jeff Baena. The ultra-private lovers had a very secret wedding. So secret that even they didn't even know about it until a few hours before.

Aubrey Plaza Almost Married Co-star Michael Cera in Vegas

In 2016, Plaza made a previously unknown revelation that she had dated fellow actor Michael Cera. Speaking with "What's The Tee" podcast hosts Michelle Visage and RuPaul, who had pointed out that he thought Cera was handsome, Plaza informed them that she had dated him for a while.

Plaza and Cera were both cast for the fan-favorite movie "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World," released in 2010. In the film, Plaza's character, Julie Powers, has a crush on Cera's character, Scott Pilgrim, but the feeling is not reciprocated. Nevertheless, it seems that the two had plenty of chemistry off-screen.

According to the actress, she was attracted to him because of his humor, a language she is well versed in. The two dated for a year and a half, and they almost married in Las Vegas while on a cross-country road trip. However, that did not happen, but they remained good friends after they split.

When Plaza was still a teenager, she got into a relationship with a Swedish exchange student whom she claims was "extremely handsome." At that time, she was a student at an all-girls Catholic school in her hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.

During their brief relationship, they did what typical teenage lovers do. For them, fooling around in cars was one of the ways they would spend time together. Plaza admits that that period was an exciting and surreptitious time for her. However, all good things must come to an end at some point.

Plaza was left heartbroken when her boyfriend returned to Europe. But despite leaving physically, he remained in her mind. Unable to get over him, she flew to Sweden to see him but had a rude awakening when she arrived. Her "boyfriend" brought his new girlfriend to dinner. Plaza described the occasion as "a total disaster."

Aubrey Plaza Married Jeff Baena While They Were "Bored" on Their 10 Anniversary

During a conversation with television host Ellen DeGeneres on "The Ellen Show," Plaza told the amusing story of how she got married to her husband, Jeff Baena, with whom she worked on "Spin Me Round."

The couple, who had been together for exactly ten years on that fateful day in 2021, was having a dull day on their anniversary. With no extravagant ideas of how to celebrate their special day, they decided to brainstorm ideas.

One of the suggestions was a mild visit to the ice cream shop for an ice cream cone. However, the eccentric Aubrey Plaza also came up with another suggestion initially meant as a joke.

She proposed that they should get married on that day. Baena's response, "We probably couldn't get married that fast," must have felt like a challenge to Plaza. She quickly sought to find a way to make it happen, and what better way to find things that you never thought existed than on the internet?

While searching on Google, she came across a website called 1hourmarriage.com, which helps couples get legally married in as little time as possible. That proved to be their saving grace, and two hours later, a man in a Hawaiian shirt and a briefcase showed up and wedded the couple.
