Comedian Mark Normand's wife, Mae Planert, caught his eye during one of his performances and snagged his heart after sliding into his DMs on Facebook.

The night she first encountered her future husband, Mae Planert was fortunate to be wearing her good date outfit. The fact that her ensemble was initially chosen for another guy is just a side note in her love story with Mark Normand.

The New York-based couple said their I-dos in a romantic destination wedding in 2022. The duo prioritizes their mental health; their respective therapists are a married couple who also work with other comedians and their partners.

Mae Planert Is a Standup Comedian, Writer, and Podcaster

Planert was born into a Massachusetts family and earned a BA in media studies from Roger Williams University. Her "waspy" background dictated that one's "work is supposed to be dry," so despite having the dream of being a standup comedian, she initially only went after corporate jobs.

As of September 2021, she is the director of brand partnerships of the tech company Octoly and previously worked at LinkedIn. She co-hosts two podcasts, "We Were Had" and "Risque Business News."

In the beginning, the comedian and writer perused standup behind Normand's back because she did not want his help. She says that comedy "gives me so much purpose. It's helped me feel a lot better to have a creative outlet that I can put a lot of energy into."

Mae Planert Encountered Mark Normand While She Was on a Date with Someone Else

The podcaster fell for Normand while on a bad date with a man she had met the weekend before at a party. The then-twenty-five-year-old quickly realized that she did not like her escort, who was from Connecticut and had presumptuously brought an overnight bag.

The comedic power couple Planert and Normand married at BK Historic House and Gardens in New Orleans.

A friend gave her a reprieve from chatting with the Connecticut man by inviting them to a comedy gig at The Stand Restaurant & Comedy Club. At the club, she first laid eyes on Normand, who was still on her mind the following day.

She used one of his jokes that when he makes eye contact with a woman, he assumes they are in love as an opening line when she contacted him over Facebook messager. Not only did this opening gambit work, he remembered where she sat at the gig.

Due to his hectic schedule, their first date was 11 p.m. on a Sunday. She said on her friend Saman Hasan's podcast that the first two years of their relationship "sucked" as it was plagued by game-playing and her insecurities about other women who also contact him over social media.

Her therapist, who also works with many other comedians' significant others, gave the podcaster a good perspective on how to deal with the "unique situation" she found herself in, both with her relationship and desire to pursue comedy.

Many People from the World of Comedy Attended Mae Planert and Mark Normand's Wedding

The comedic power couple Planert and Normand married at BK Historic House and Gardens in New Orleans on November 10, 2022. According to their wedding planner, it was a "wonderful celebration" that was all the details.

As per tradition, the bridal pair led a procession through the French Quarter with lace parasols. Comedian Joe List served as the emcee of the reception that featured the musical talent of The Mixed Nuts.

Ines Di Santo designed Planert's white gown with a low back and detachable sleeves that came off during the dancing later that evening. Her dramatic look was completed with a chapel-length veil. Normand traded his flannel shirts for a sharp tuxedo for the day.

The guest list included a mini-festival of comedians like Stavros Halkias, Phil Hanley, Sam Morril, and Ari Shaffir. The groom gave the event a fantasy upgrade by mischievously tagging Halkias as British actor and DJ Idris Elba in his carousel.
