Recently, the actor Tom Selleck and his family celebrated his wife's birthday. The "Blue Bloods" star's wife, Jillie Mack, turned 65 on December 25, and the whole family came together to celebrate the actress' life.
Tom and Jillie have been married for 25 years, and the two starred together in Selleck's breakout television series, "Magnum P.I." Jillie was born in 1957 in Wiltshire in the UK, and she has starred in various projects, including "Frasier" and "Silverfox."

Jillie's birthday celebrations took place on the family's ranch, and Hannah Selleck, the only child Tom and Jillie share, filmed the festivities. She proceeded to post the videos she took on her Instagram profile as an homage to her mother. Hannah captioned a video of her mom blowing out her birthday candles with a simple, "HBD mama."
Knowing he couldn't balance the intensive shooting schedule and be an involved father and husband, Tom decided to put a hold on his career for a while.

Included in her story were various images from throughout the night. The photos detailed everything from breakfast to the drive the family took around the luscious outdoors on their lovely ranch. Hannah later posted more pictures of her mother just to say how much she adores Jillie.
Life on Ranch Became Their Blessing after Daughter's Birth
When Tom starred as Thomas Magnum in the hit crime series that gave him his big break into stardom, the actor spent most of his time focusing on his job. Tom commented that he spent most of his time during the week on set, and when he wasn't filming for the TV show, he was making films.
He chose to take a break from acting and raise his daughter on a ranch where few reporters and snoops could get to his family.
However, his life changed drastically after he met and married Jillie. The two tied the knot in 1987, and they had their daughter, Hannah, the very next year. Knowing he couldn't balance the intensive shooting schedule and be an involved father and husband, Tom decided to put a hold on his career for a while. He commented:
"I quit 'Magnum' to have a family. It took a long time to get off the train, but I try very hard to have balance, and this ranch has helped me do that."

Years later, the actor reflected on the role his family's ranch has played in all their lives. The property afforded the "fairly private" actor some peace and allowed him to keep out of the public eye while raising his daughter. He commented on the ranch, calling the home "a real blessing," and said it helped keep him "sane" over the years.
Why Did Tom & Jillie Shock the Public with Their Wedding in 1987?
Tom has always gone out of his way to ensure his privacy. He chose to take a break from acting and raise his daughter on a ranch where few reporters and snoops could get to his family. In the same vein, he took the route that offered them the most confidentiality when he married Jillie.
When he first saw her, the actor was in London shooting his latest project and had recently divorced his first wife. During his time off from the set, Tom went to see the musical "Cats" and raved about the show when he returned. Jillie played one of the characters, and Tom fell in love when he saw her perform.

The "Friends" guest star built up the courage to ask her out, and everything went smoothly from there. They got to know each other, and soon, Tom asked Jillie to marry him. Although she said yes, the ceremony did not follow the usual order of events.
The couple retreated unexpectedly to Nevada in 1987 and booked a small 24-hour chapel. Befitting the lead in "Magnum P.I.," Tom and Jillie registered under false names to throw everyone off their scent. Not even the pastor knew who they really were until he stepped into the chapel. They even forbade anything other than Polaroid pictures.

Eventually, the couple returned from their incognito wedding ceremony, leaving friends and the press dumbfounded at how well they hid their nuptials. Despite the shadowy proceedings, Tom cared about his bride and the day, and the reverend described him as "a very warm, caring man."
