Hollywood golden girl Margot Robbie got her start putting on magic shows on her grandparents' farm on the Gold Coast of Australia. Even as a young girl, she was driven, fearless, and ready to go for what she wanted.

That tenacious spirit landed her on Ramsay Street, the fictional setting for the Australian soap "Neighbours." While on the show she took acting classes and perfected her American accent in her spare time, and by 2011, Robbie arrived in Hollywood just in time for pilot season.

Robbie had a humble upbringing gave her a great work ethic. At just ten years old, the "Suicide Squad" actress started working at a restaurant. Speaking about her first job, she said:

“I started at the back of the kitchen, polishing silverware. Then I moved on to peeling potatoes, then I started washing dishes, and then I was a waitress."

Robbie also worked at Subway before getting her first acting job. Recalling how her fashion taste consisted of board shorts, farm boots, and T-shirts, her mother Sarie Kessler is tickled that her daughter now sits on the front row at fashion shows and is an ambassador for global brands.

Mother Supported Daughter's Dream Of Becoming an Actress

In spite of her reservations that Robbie could make a good living as an actor, Kessler did not dissuade her daughter from pursuing her dream. The mom of four understood that if Robbie had a chance to do what she loved, she would be successful in her own way.

Robbie continues to be a favorite with fellow actors and directors, landing meaty roles in exciting films.

Even though she didn't have much, Kessler invested in her daughter's dream and the "Birds of Prey" actress kept track of every penny her mom spent on her through the years. When she made her first paycheck as an actress, she was elated to pay off that debt.

Margot Bought Houses for Mother & Sister

In 2014, Robbie paid off her mom's mortgage for the Gold Coast home where she spent her teen years. Her mother described the gesture as an amazing 60th birthday gift but wished it hadn't been made public. The red brick house which has impressive views and a pool was put on the market in 2018 and sold after just 22 days.

Robbie, who has proven to be a dutiful daughter and wonderful sister, is also spreading her wings in show business.

In the same year, the star reportedly spent $2.5 million on neighboring houses for her mom and her younger sister Anya Robbie. The homes which have two bathrooms and three bedrooms apiece are within the same part of Queensland where Robbie grew up with Anya and their two brothers Lachlan and Cameron.

Robbie, who has proven to be a dutiful daughter and wonderful sister, is also spreading her wings in show business. Together with her husband Tom Ackerley and business partners Josey McNamara and Sophie Kerr, she founded LuckyChap Entertainment. Speaking about what inspired them to branch out, Robbie said:

"The conversation really started from Josey and I saying that the best roles in a script were always the male characters. From there we said we should make scripts where the female characters are the most awesome."

The four conceptualized a company to make this happen proving just how compelling projects with a female protagonist or told from the female point of view could be. LuckyChap has so far lived up to its name, producing some great titles like "I Tonya" and "Barbie."

The move has established the "Mary Queen of Scots" star as more than just a pretty face and daring talent but a force of change in Hollywood, championing scripts that would otherwise be rejected by the established production houses. Speaking about her experience with LuckyChap, Emerald Fennel, who wrote "Promising Young Woman," said:

“They never made me feel like a little girl. They believed in me and helped me. I felt safe with them.”

That is no mean feat in a business that can be driven by the numbers at the box office. Robbie and her team have managed to create a family-like atmosphere for the artists who work with them, and it is paying off. Fennel won an Oscar, a BAFTA Award, and a WGA award for best original screenplay.

As a rule, Robbie's approach to personal and professional relationships is to treat others fairly and with respect. She credits her family with this sense of decency, saying:

"I think between you [Kessler], Grandy and so many people in our family, I have a lot to live up in terms of being a good person.”

LuckyChap has many other films in the production pipeline and is venturing into creating shows for television and streaming services. Though now a successful producer, Robbie still thrives on the intense mental and physical demands of acting.

Margot Robbie continues to be a favorite with fellow actors and directors, landing nuanced roles in films like "Babylon." The actress has come a long way from that leggy, pink-clad blonde in "The Wolf of Wall Street."
