Before meeting his current life partner, Skylene Montgomery, former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton had been married for nearly two decades. It was to his college sweetheart, Beth Shuey, who later became the mother of their two children.

The former couple had met at Indiana State University – where Beth was a student – after Sean joined the institution as a running back and wide receivers coach in 1990. They started dating shortly after, and by 1992, they were husband and wife.

The Moroccan native and her ex-husband first welcomed their daughter, Meghan, in 1997. The 25-year-old recently got engaged. Her brother, Connor, was born in 2000. Meghan and Connor's parents separated in 2012, subsequently filing for the dissolution of their marriage. They finalized their divorce in 2014.

Beth found new love with real estate agent Jamie McGuire, whom she married in September 2020. Sean also moved on to Skylene, a licensed medical practitioner at Ochsner Medical Center, fitness enthusiast, and philanthropist.

Skylene Montgomery Is a Sports Enthusiast

The West Virginia native drew her first breath in Parkersburg on December 4, 1984. She was born to Darlene and Skylar Montgomery, from whom her name was derived. Skylene's name was a combination of both her parents' first names.

Despite Darlene and her husband's efforts to enroll her in ballet, Skylene described herself as a "tomboy" who loved sports. She played softball, baseball, and volleyball. She even had a bowl-cut haircut, as she recalled:

"I had a bowl-cut haircut and was always that kid in messy baggy shorts and a Nike tee who played baseball."

That was until her mid-teens when she joined the Miss Teen West Virginia pageant show open to girls between ages 13-18. Skylene was 14 at the time and won first runner-up to an 18-year-old. She later pursued a career in the medical field.

Skylene relocated to New Orleans in 2013 and worked in the gastrointestinal intensive care unit at Ochsner Medical Center. In 2019, she began studying to become a nurse practitioner and also focused more on being active in the Sean Payton Pay It Forward Foundation.

This was in addition to other philanthropic endeavors, including co-organizing the annual Moonlight and Miracles Ball benefit with Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints, for the Ochsner Cancer Institute. Alongside her husband, she was set to host the Harvest at Home signature fundraiser in the 2020 spring.

Sean, whose life was recently depicted in a sports comedy film, "Home Team," is a California native born in San Mateo on December 29, 1963. He and Skylene share a birth month, but the couple is also separated by a sizeable age gap, with Skylene being 38 and Sean being 59.

Skylene retained her zeal for fitness and has been described as an "avid fitness buff." Her intense workout routine included strengthening her upper body and core with 65-pound battle ropes, jumping rope, weight work, exercising with resistance bands, hot yoga, and boxing.

Skylene Was Not Expecting the Proposal, but Her Parents Were Aware of What Was Going On

It was a grand romantic gesture held at Longway Tavern in 2019, where loved ones and friends surrounded the happy couple. Sean was dressed in all-black for the special occasion, which Darlene cheekily admitted she and her husband were "in on."

The NFL coach had received Skylar and Darlene's blessing before asking for their daughter's hand in marriage. As country singer Heidi Newfield sang her song "Johnny and June," he went down on one knee in front of Skylene and proposed.

Skylene wasn't aware of her now-husband's big surprise but happily said yes to being his wife. Gayle was also present, and the businesswoman expressed excitement for the then-newly engaged couple as she said:

"Skylene has been a part of our Saints family for many years. I am so thrilled for Sean and Skylene on their engagement, and I enjoyed being part of the engagement night planning."

Sean's children, Meghan and Connor, were also present at the engagement night. The father of two announced the good news via Twitter alongside a picture where they all posed together with Heidi. Reacting to the diamond size on the engagement ring, the artist humorously remarked:

"That's big enough to fry an egg on."

The couple officialized their marital union in Los Cabos, Mexico, in June 2021. They held their ceremony at the lavish One and Only Palmilla 5-star resort, which cost $1700 to stay each night.

Both Skylene and Sean wore all-white attire, with Sean switching things up by donning his white Jordan 1s. The NFL coach went viral on social media as fans reacted to the unconventional shoe choice for his wedding.

Now the Couple Lives in a 6,000-Square-Foot Greek Revival House

In addition to a house in Warehouse District and a three-bedroom condo in the New Orleans Creative Arts School, the couple mainly resides in their Uptown Greek Revival home. They moved to the gorgeous mansion in 2019.

Since they have no kids and haven't shared plans to expand their family, Skylene and Sean – who may not be related to the late Hollywood starlet Barbara Payton – live with their pups; a "Sheepadoodle" named Frannie Grace and a "Goldendoodle" named Murphy.
