As news of his death broke, people worldwide mourned the monumental loss to the music world, and tributes for him poured in from all corners of the globe. He was one of the founding members of a band called The Byrds and Crosby.

Crosby's family announced his death on Tuesday, 18 January 2023. There was no mention of his cause of death in the statement. It simply
:
"It is with great sadness, after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us."
The statement ended with the family wishing all those who knew Crosby and all those whose lives he had touched during his time on earth peace and harmony. They then said they would miss him.
Crosby's wife, Jan, took to Instagram to share her feelings about her husband's death and said he was now on his own ocean voyages. She mentioned how much he gave to the world and advised everyone to wrap themselves in the music he had left behind for comfort.

Jan Dance and David Crosby met when she was working as a receptionist for the recording studio he was using at the time. He once described meeting his wife as "one of the smartest things [he] ever did."
He then admitted that after they got married in 1987, he fell in love with her two or three times a day. The couple's son was born in 1995, and they all enjoyed spending time together doing activities such as horseback riding.
Jan often shared photos of the couple on Instagram. She has shown them horseback riding together, simply enjoying one another's company, and playing music together. Crosby mentioned they truly loved spending time together.

The final photos Jan shared were over a month ago when she shared pictures of herself and her husband with a puppy. She made two separate posts, each with one of them holding the small white dog.
In David's, he nuzzled his face into the dog's coat and smiled as Jan shared that she had taken the photo that day. In Jan's, she smiled at the camera as she held the dog next to her face so it would look at the camera.

In August 2021, Crosby gave an interview in which he talked about his feelings regarding the death and the role music played in his life. He confessed that he believed making music at his age kept him alive.
He admitted he thought he would be dead by 30 and found that being alive and having been through everything he had been through was something of a miracle. He said he was grateful for the life he had lived.
On the day he died, he tweeted a Google search asking if people could go into heaven with tattoos and joked that it was overrated and too cloudy. Rest in peace to a legend of the music world.
