Ben Affleck's biggest regret is his divorce from the mother of his three children, Jennifer Garner, who helped him get sober despite their ruined marriage.

Jennifer's dream is to dance with Ben at their daughter's wedding.

The ex-spouses of ten years worked hard to become excellent co-parents after a hard split.
Ben Affleck and his wife, Jennifer Lopez, attended a musical event with family and the former's ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, on January 22, 2023. Their children joined Lopez and Garner at Santa Monica, California's performance hall.
Since the family blended when Ben married Lopez in 2022, they've appeared quite cozy. While the "13 Going On 30" actress arrived at the venue, Ben and his wife were seen being affectionate with Lopez's child, Emme, then 14.

Garner arrived with the children she shared with Ben, daughter Violet, then 17, and son Samuel, then 10. It was assumed that her other daughter Seraphina, then 14, was already at the event as the musical performance included her.
The celebrities and their families were all dressed in casual clothing. Emme's twin brother, Max, was also seen arriving with the group for the performance, and the "Shotgun Wedding" star traveled minimalistically.
Lopez only carried her phone and blue wallet by hand. At one point, Samuel was seen being affectionate with Garner, who supported his father when he needed help with addiction, as he snuggled against her while walking into the venue.
Ben Thanked Ex Jennifer for Staying with Him While Getting His Treatment
In 2020, Ben spoke about the addiction he once struggled with, noting how he'd been a casual drinker for some time. He explained how he started drinking severely when his marriage to Garner was falling apart in 2015 and 2016.

However, his addiction caused more problems in the relationship. Two years after they separated, Garner filed for divorce in April 2017 after ten years of marriage, but the duo remained close partly for their children.
The actress intervened in Ben's life to help him by going to his Pacific Palisades home and begging him to get assistance for his problem. The "Batman" actor was receptive as he knew he needed help and agreed to go into rehabilitation.

It was revealed that Ben was driven by Garner and admitted to a Los Angeles County facility; before arriving there, they stopped at Jack in the Box. According to reports, the actor had fallen off the wagon and had worsened.
Sources revealed that things reached a breaking point two days before the admittance when Garner saw a photo of her estranged husband. The star was seen grabbing a box from a delivery person filled with liquor and beer.

An insider claimed Garner didn't keep any secrets from their children regarding Ben's addiction issues. The actress was allegedly great at explaining what was happening in an age-appropriate way.
The source claimed the star told the children that their father was sick and needed help from doctors. What she cared about was Ben becoming sober and being reliable regarding co-parenting.

Garner reportedly tried to keep the father of her children alive. In March 2017, Ben revealed on his Facebook page that he'd completed his treatment for alcohol addiction and would continue confronting it.
He said he wanted to "live life to the fullest" and to be the best father he could be. The actress' ex-husband shared how he wanted his children to know there wasn't any shame in getting help when needed.

He also wanted to be a source of strength for anyone who required help but was afraid to take the first step. The "Argo" star also noted how blessed he was despite his wife's divorce filing, stating:
"I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do."
Ben concluded his post by sharing how that was the first of many steps he would take to recover positively. In October 2018, the former couple finalized their divorce three years after separation.

Garner and Ben met at her home with attorneys and a private judge to wrap things up. Their divorce wasn't the only thing the actor regretted about his marriage to Garner.
Ben's Biggest Regret and Jennifer's Dream to Dance with Him
In 2020, Ben confessed that the biggest regret of his life was his divorce from Garner. He also noted how the shame he felt was "toxic" and didn't have a positive byproduct and stewed in a "hideous feeling" of self-loathing and low self-worth.

In 2016, Garner revealed that she knew that it wasn't Ben's job to make her happy. Their main focus was their children, and they were aligned in what they hoped for them.

The actress admitted that separating from her husband made her lose her dream of dancing with him at their daughter's wedding one day. However, the children's faces lit up when Ben walked in!

The star seeing how their children loved him so "pure and wholly" made her realize that she'd remain friends with their father. However, little did Garner know that her dream would be fulfilled years later.
Jennifer and Ben Will Dance!
In 2020, it was revealed that Garner was "happy" to see how far Ben had progressed since their 2015 separation. A source said the former couple had "worked hard" to reach a good place with each other.

The actress was allegedly "always polite" and trusted her ex-husband, allowing him to do what he wanted while with their children. Garner was said to be pleased that Ben was in a healthy and good place in his life.
That's what the actress had wanted for the father of her children. The former couple might've divorced, but they appeared to excel in co-parenting, as seen in June 2019 when they were spotted taking their children to a Los Angeles church.

During a March 2021 interview, Garner's statement about being hurt that she wouldn't get to dance with Ben at their daughter's wedding was revisited. The "Camping" star smiled as she said she now knew that they would dance together when their children married.
The actress shared how she and "The Way Back" actor would "boogaloo" and have a fantastic time. Garner revealed that she didn't harbor that old worry anymore.
