James Brolin and Jane Smithers met on the set of "Hotel" in the 1980s. Smithers recalled how the actor had asked her if she was afraid when they were about to do their scene, and she said no.

That's when she realized that James might be the scared one. At that moment, she noticed how he was sincere, and their relationship developed on that trait, leading them to marry in 1986.

When Smither's initially discovered her pregnancy, she planned to take six months off work before returning. She loved her acting career, but when Molly was born and her mother met for the first time, she told the child:

"You need me."

Molly gave her mother an innocent look, and Smithers realized she had to stay put and quit her Hollywood career. The actress confessed that having her daughter changed her life, and she longed to be her mother.

“Within two minutes I was totally infatuated. We talked all night about flying, computers, music.”

Streisand recalled how shy they were, but she went to sleep with a smile and was amazed about her desire to want to see him again. James relocated to the singer's Malibu compound in the fall, leaving behind his Pacific Palisades.

The couple was in their late 50s when they found each other and became engaged in April 1997. Streisand explained how they wanted to marry in front of people they'd loved for long.

In September 2018, Molly joined Jeannine Mansur Van Buren in Malibu, California, for high tea and a baby shower to celebrate Kathryn's pregnancy. The group of women who attended the event included friends and family members.

James' daughter appeared on the second and fourth pages of the slide that Van Vuren uploaded on her Instagram account. While she'd chosen a quieter life, she seemed happy to bond with her family.
