Rachael Ray's First Weight Loss Was Unintentional
In 2008, Ray began experiencing discomfort with her vocal cords, which were discovered to have been ailed by a cyst. She initially arranged surgery to have it removed before canceling for intensive verbal therapy. Yet, months later, Ray successfully underwent surgery to remove the noncancerous cyst.
The recovery process required Ray to remain quiet for just over a week. Ray took up jogging as a hobby after surgery to exert her pent-up energy during her silent recovery, although she previously discarded the prospect of such physical activity. After a few months, she lost a fair bit of weight, subsequently reducing her clothing size.
Ray, who maintained her carb-heavy diet, revealed that she is not ashamed of the foods she devours. "I grew up with a Mediterranean diet, so I don't eat a lot of butter and fat. I eat a lot of vegetables and good fresh-looking food," the cook added.

The Celebrity Cook Received Backlash Following Her Weight Gain
Ray's constitution has been a topic of discussion since 2016 when her fans and media platforms began noticing an upsurge in her weight. In January 2019, a fan unsympathetically compared her increase in size to that of Elvis Presley and added that Ray's "weight gain is out of control, but no one wants to say anything."
In the same month, just a few days earlier, another Twitter user took to the timeline to air their thoughts on the TV host's appearance, suggesting that she became unappealing as she got bigger. Although fans chose an unempathetic approach in addressing the apparent change in her size, Daily Mail provided insight into its reasons.
The publication disclosed that Ray had had a tough time finding a diet that suited her, and menopause did not ease her dietary struggles at the time. Daily Mail also revealed that the TV star had plans to launch a new show that would birth cognition about the change associated with menopause.

Despite all the public scrutiny about her appearance, Ray has not shied away from popping up in public. On November 11, 2017, Ray proudly attended an event called A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson's, hosted by Michael J. Fox and his eponymous foundation.
Aside from her profession, the 54-year-old has also visited the depths of public scrutiny for her appearance and turned her life around with her husband.
She wore a simple chic outfit incorporating a shiny silver jacket thrown over a black suede dress. At that point, Ray's weight was the go-to topic when her name came up, but she never let it hold her back. Michael's wife, Tracy Pollan, and his children, Sam, Esme, Schuyler, and Aquinnah Fox, were all at the Parkinson's disease benefit.

Rachael Ray's Husband Stayed by Her Side Regardless of Her Body Transformation
Ray has married her filmmaker husband, John M. Cusimano, since September 24, 2005. The couple has maintained a healthy, long-lasting relationship and connected over similar interests, like staying up late listening to their favorite music and their love for an unhealthy plate of food.
The cook was interviewed by EatingWell last year and revealed that she and John had a massive change in their dietary setup. "We eat a very healthy diet and eat a ton of vegetables. I got shunned in kindergarten because I was eating a sardine sandwich. I was eating kale before kale was cool," she remarked.
Their diet has shifted from almost self-harm-like dishes to vegetarian and pescatarian meals. The couple's weekly meal plan currently consists of one or two red-meat meals. The reduction of red meat is a fundamental change considering the weight issues Ray endured in her forties, influenced by their love for gourmand dishes.
