Best-Selling Author Jodi Picoult Melts Hearts Cradling Her First Grandchild in Sweet Photo
Jodi Picoult confirmed on Instagram that her grandchild, Greyson Ferreira van Leer, is "perfect." The novelist also revealed in the hashtag her cute grandparent identifier. She and her son, the baby's dad, have a dedicated IG account for their adventures at Disney parks.
Greyson was fast asleep in his Lolli, Jodi Picoult's arms in the March 12, 2023 post, with family members scurrying in the open plan kitchen in the background. Author Jessica Dennehy agreed, "He really is perfecto!" and actress Arielle Jacobs commented on the "precious" moment.
The first time grandmother uploaded the first of what is bound to be many pictures of her grandson on February 26, writing, "How lucky is he to grow up with dads @kyleofthenile and @ferreirakev?!" Audra McDonald and authors Jojo Moyes and Alice Hoffman congratulated her on the new addition to the family.
Baby Greyson's Parents Are Both Dedicated Teachers
The bestseller's son, Kyle Ferreira van Leer, is a Yale alum and middle school mathematics teacher at Starr King K-8 School in Carmichael, California, and studied baking arts at the Institute of Culinary Education. Jodie shared what she assumed to be the last photo with Kyle before his wedding on Facebook in September 2016.
The rest of Kyle's family was also receptive to hearing his truth.
His husband, Dr. Kevin Ferreira van Leer, is a researcher and associate professor at Sacramento State University in child and adolescent development. He co-wrote a paper on the disruption of Covid-19 on kindergarteners at the end of 2022.
Jodi Picoult Had Been a Supportive Mom When His Son Came Out
The mom of three found out about her son's sexuality in the midst of researching a novel with LGBTQ+ parenting themes, "Sing You Home." Kyle came out to Jodie in a collage essay. Jodie wrote in the Daily Mail in April 2011:
"In the aftermath, I saw him blossom, finally comfortable in his own skin, because he wasn't living a lie anymore."
The author, whose novel "My Sister's Keeper" was adapted into a film starring Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin, and Alec Baldwin, had suspected Kyle might be gay from a young age but felt it was his "discovery to make" and share.
The rest of Kyle's family was also receptive to hearing his truth. His father gave him a "huge hug," his sister shrugged and retorted, "So?," and the teacher's little brother has become a fierce LGBTQ+ ally.
