Elsie Fisher's parents, Susic and Dominic, homeschooled their child after she experienced a challenging time as an eighth grader. They are proud of Elsie's achievements as an actress and celebrate her notable on-screen performances.

Born Elsie Kate Fisher on April 3, 2003, the actress was only six years old when she first appeared in the series "Medium." She later gained popularity for voicing Agnes in two "Despicable Me" films.

Throughout her career, Elsie has received support from her parents, Susic Fisher and Dominic Fisher. They were most proud of their daughter when she received several accolades for her 2018 performance in "Eighth Grade."

In the film, Elsie brought to life Kayla Day, a typical teen struggling to make it day by day in school. Her outstanding performance earned her a Golden Globe Award nod for Best Actress - Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.

Elsie's Dad Reportedly Got Her into Acting

As a child, Elsie showed confidence in entertaining. According to Dominic, a jazz club worker, Elsie was only four when she was first discovered.

During one visit to the club, Elsie took the stage and began acting. She impressed one of the guests, and he suggested the little girl get into acting professionally. The guest told Dominic:

"Hey, I have a friend who's an agent. Have you ever thought about having her try out to be an actress?"

Fortunately, Elsie's parents helped her pursue an acting career, making her a remarkable star at a young age.

Her Dad Yelled When She Became a First-Time Golden Globe Nominee

At 15, Elsie celebrated a significant milestone when she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. As she recalled, Elsie watched the nominations livestream alone at five in the morning and was incredibly happy to hear her name. However, one more person in the house was happier than she was. Elsie shared:

"As soon as it was announced, I could hear my dad, like, yell in the other room, 'Yeah!'"

Dominic later bought doughnuts to celebrate his daughter's achievement. Elsie also commemorated the milestone in her small way by shopping for video games and records and rewarding herself with a well-deserved nap.

Elsie Thought Parents Should Watch 'Eight Grade' with Their Kids

While "Eighth Grade" brought her success, Elsie admittedly didn't like how her on-screen character's experience resembled her real-life eighth-grade encounter. Elsie, who entered eighth grade a few weeks after filming the movie, once had to message her father during a school trip to D.C.

While she loved the historical location, Elsie felt miserable with the three people she had to bunk with and even sought refuge with the chaperones.

Recalling another experience, Elsie revealed she once drank puddle water after a classmate dared her. "I was thirsty for friendship," she said.

Like other teens, Elsie sometimes finds her parents annoying and overbearing. Through the role, the actress was able to reflect on her life and her connection with Dominic and Susic.

During a guest appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Elsie revealed that her experience as a student made her want to drop out of school. As a result, she continued her education through homeschooling.

According to Elsie, she is happy "Eighth Grade" was rated R so teens can watch the film with their parents or guardians and have a healthy discussion. The movie also allows parents to see what their children undergo in school.

Elsie Saw Similarities between Her Character and Her Own Relationship with Her Dad

Elsie saw another similarity with her on-screen role because of her connection with her dad. Like Kayla, she, too, felt a little distance between her and Dominic at one point.

She knows the blame is not entirely on social media, but the disconnect happens. Like other teens, Elsie sometimes finds her parents annoying and overbearing. Through the role, the actress was able to reflect on her life and her connection with Dominic and Susic.

Elsie Revealed a Secret She Hid from Her Parents Once

Elsie undoubtedly has a good relationship with her parents, but like other teens, she also keeps secrets from Dominic and Susic.

During a Teen Vogue interview with Chloe Grace Moretz, who also has a close bond with her family, Elsie admitted she used to lie about eating junk food. Once, the child star sneaked into her kitchen to get a brownie but accidentally cut her foot with glass on the floor.

When her mom came rushing, Elsie claimed she only wanted a carrot but somehow ended up with a brownie in her mouth. She would also sneak some junk food in the evening without her parents' knowledge.

Elsie Rarely Shares Pictures with Her Parents

Elsie Fisher keeps her personal life private and rarely shares photos with her parents on social media. In 2021, she shared a Mother's Day tribute on Facebook alongside a selfie with her mom.

In the post, she referred to her mom as "meemaw" and thanked Susic for raising her in a loving and caring environment. "I owe a lot to her," Elsie said.

She also shared stolen photos of her dad making a weird face and walking their dog in the same year. Elsie hilariously captioned her post, "Found a stray dad today."

Although Elsie doesn't post about them as much, she remains grateful to have loving and supportive parents who only want the best for their child.
