'My Goodness!': Grandma Marlo Thomas Amazes with Her Body at 85 & Said 'Nothing' Slows Her Down

Marlo Thomas has been a Hollywood staple since the early 1960s. Having been in numerous productions and was the heartthrob of many young men as they grew up and saw her on their screens.

She is now a mother and grandmother but does not look old enough to be either. In fact, fans are shocked at how wonderful the actress still looks and want to know what her secrets are.

Thomas is known as Ann Marie from "That Girl," and her career blew up during the early 1960s. While her professional life was thriving, she didn't believe that she would ever get married. Yet that all changed when she met Phil Donahue.

Donahue and Thomas met when he interviewed her on his Chicago-based talk show. When they met in 1977, Donahue told Thomas she was fascinating, and she replied:

"Whoever is the woman in your life is very lucky."

She once briefly described their relationship, saying they fell in love, had dinner, went to bed together, and the rest was history. Yet Thomas initially feared marriage because she didn't think she could chase her dreams and become who she wanted to be if she had a husband.

She once admitted it wasn't easy for them to be married, saying they both had to grow and change throughout their marriage. Even though Thomas did not want to get married, when she married Donahue, she also gained four stepsons.

Donahue has five children, four boys, and a girl. Donahue's daughter lived with her mother, but all four boys lived with the couple when they got married, which was another massive adjustment for Thomas; she even called it a "disaster."

For Thomas, who had lived alone most of her adult life, adjusting to living with four teenagers was difficult. She once likened the experience to living in an army camp and said she had to implement survival strategies.

One of the things she did was color-code the towels. She ensured everyone in the house knew that the white towels were hers and they weren't to touch them. She did this because she found that there were never any dry towels available.

She also felt no space except her bedroom and the dining room were hers. Thomas revealed she would go into the dining room to read because nobody ever went there.

Even though it was a significant adjustment for her to become a stepmother, she said she was well-received by her stepchildren and "wept” when her stepdaughter admitted she saw her as a mother.

While Thomas' stepchildren see her as their mother, she admitted that she never tried to mother them. Instead, she let them know she was there for them and built friendships with them that are stronger now than ever.

Thomas and Donahue now live in a penthouse duplex on the Upper East Side of New York with their golden retriever, Charlie. They decorated their apartment with photos and souvenirs from all the places they traveled.

Thomas keeps photos of her family and friends and some awards, like Emmys, and other keepsakes, in her office. All of these items are laid out on a table that is situated behind Thomas' office desk.

The couple enjoys spending time in their penthouse together but also love spending time with their children and grandchildren. When the couple is not taking strolls along Madison Avenue together, they ensure they have family time.

Thomas often shares photos of herself and her husband spending time with their grandchildren. In 2014, Thomas shared a photo of herself and Donahue with their grandson, Connor, at his high school graduation. She shared how proud they felt and said how much he had grown.

In 2011, she shared a photo of herself, Donahue, Connor, and their granddaughter, Kenzie, at Thanksgiving. Donahue held a turkey as the rest of the family stood around him and smiled at the camera.

Thomas also shared a photo of herself and her granddaughter, Kenzie, when she visited her before she went to college. Kenzie's friend was also featured in the image, and Thomas once again talked about how much her grandchild had grown.

In 2019 Thomas once again shared a photo of herself and Connor, calling him her soulmate and saying how much she loved him before sharing a photo of Donahue and Connor's mother, Reed. She has shared many other pictures of herself and her grandchildren.

Why Are Fans So Amazed by Thomas' Body at 85?

While some might let their age change their lives, Thomas does not think it is terrible. In fact, she says she will not "bemoan” the fact that she is aging. She gushed:

"I enjoy my life. Nothing slows me down."

When asked how she stays so excited and optimistic about life, Thomas said activity keeps her excited. She plays golf and tennis, has a beautiful website to which she always adds new content, and doesn't want to slow down for anyone.

The only thing she doesn't do is bungee jump, but she says she didn't do that at eighteen, so she doesn't feel deprived. She says she feels surprised when she thinks about how old she is because she feels she hasn't aged.

Talking about how she deals with her body getting older but her mind not changing at all, Thomas shared:

"I believe in motion. Do one thing every day that gets you closer to your dream, even if it's just one very small thing."

Although she moves a lot, she has beauty treatments that help keep her young. She also lives by the motto that she will never face the facts about how old she is and advises women never to worry about growing older.

She recently exhibited all of this in a photo she posted on Instagram. She posed in neon orange shorts and a black tank top, and fans thought she looked terrific. Thomas posted the picture for National Exercise Day and asked fans what their go-to exercise routine was.

Fans quickly praised her for her physique, with one saying: "My goodness! Who's That Girl in front of the fountain??" Another said she looked amazing, and others said Marlo still "has it." Thomas looks impressive at 85, and we wish her many happy, healthy years.
