Stellan Skarsgård Had Two Wives and Is Proud of Them

Megan Everett is Stellan Skarsgård's wife and the mother of his two children. However, he was wed to My Skarsgård before Everett and had six kids with her. Most of Stellan's children followed in his footsteps as an actor.

Sweden-born actor Stellan Skarsgård began his acting career in his home country. He later landed roles in American films, including "Amistad," "Good Will Hunting," and "My Son the Fanatic."

Stellan has since appeared in box-office hits, including the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film franchise," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "Thor," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and the "Mamma Mia!" movies. Through his successes, Stellan has his wife, Megan Everett, to thank for her support.

Stellan Skarsgård Was Married Twice

Before Everett entered his life, Stellan was married to his first wife, My Skarsgård. The pair tied the knot on April 27, 1975, and divorced on May 1, 2007. During their marriage, My and Stellan welcomed six children.

Like her ex-husband, My is an actress, most recognized for her work in "Efter tio," "Gomorron," and "Jim & Piraterna Blom." Despite their divorce, Stellan had nothing but kind words about his ex-wife. In a previous interview, he said he is proud of having two beautiful, intelligent wives.

On January 12, 2009, two years after his divorce, Stellan tied the knot with Everett, an actress known for "Fisher of Souls" and "German Autumn, What Remains." The couple had two children together.

Stellan is a proud father of eight. The majority of his kids followed in his footsteps as an actor. His eldest son, Alexander, was only seven when he first appeared in Stellan's movie. As an adult, Alexander continued his career in Hollywood and landed roles in "Zoolander," "Generation Kill," and "True Blood."

He also starred in HBO's "Big Little Lies," where he won Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe Awards for his performance, alongside Nicole Kidman.

Stellan's second-born, Gustaf, is also an actor and attended the Swedish National Academy of Mime and Acting to learn the craft. He started as a stage actor and later transitioned on-screen. He is best known for his roles in "Vikings," "Westworld," and "Cursed."

The third Skarsgård sibling, Sam, followed in his mom's footsteps and pursued medicine. He works in the ICU and finds fulfillment in his job as a doctor.

Stellan's fourth child, Bill, also became an actor. He began his career in Sweden and later landed roles in "Hemlock Grove," "Allegiant," "Deadpool 2," "Castle Tock," "It," and "It Chapter Two."

Eija, Stellan's only daughter, is one of the few kids who did not pursue acting. She was once a model but later focused on having a family of her own. Eija has since made Stellan Skarsgård a grandfather.

Stellan's youngest child with My is Valter, who also joined the entertainment industry. He is known for his roles on "Black Lake" and "Katla."

Meanwhile, Stellan's two children with Everett, Ossian and Kolbjörn, are still relatively young. However, they have already made their acting debuts.

Stellan is proud of the people his children have become. He once opened up about how happy he feels when he hears feedback about his kids. Stellan said:

"[I'm proud when] I hear that somebody worked with them and they were really nice on the set and totally cool with everybody, and how no matter what menial job anyone had on the set they were nice to them [...]."

Stellan is raising his kids to have curious mindsets and question anything. The actor believes curiosity is an avenue to learn and "to sharpen arguments in defense of a position."

He holds familial ties in high regard and teaches his children the importance of family. According to Stellan, making each other feel loved and valued is essential as the world is full of uncertainties.

With most of his children in the same industry, he advises them to think hard about what they want to do in life and be brave enough to do it. "I have never had ambitions for them other than that they should be decent people," he said.
