'Mamma Mia's Stellan Skarsgård, 71, Is a Grandpa — Dad of 7 Sons & 1 Daughter Treasures His Big Family
-
'Mamma Mia' star Stellan Skarsgård, 71, is a proud father of seven sons and one daughter.
-
Most of his kids are famous actors like their father. The Skarsgård family is one of Hollywood's most powerful acting families.
-
Stellan just welcomed his 3rd grandbaby in the past three years - and again - secretly.
You might know him as one of Sophie's potential fathers, Bill Anderson, in 2008's "Mamma Mia," but he is actually the father of eight children who have followed in his acting footsteps. He has seven sons and one daughter.
Skardsgård's first six children came as a result of his marriage to My Skarsgård. His following two children came later when he married Megan Everett. His children's names are Alexander, Gustaf, Sam, Bill, Valter, Eija, Ossian, and Kolbjörn, in order.
While not all of Skarsgård's children are actors, four have followed in their father's footsteps. His most famous acting child is Alexander, who has starred in major productions like "True Blood" and "Zoolander." They have become one of Hollywood's most powerful acting families.
While the Skarsgård children have many siblings, they have not all had the chance to bond equally because of the significant age gaps between them. There are 36 years between the actors' eldest and youngest child.

Skarsgård welcomed seven boys and only one girl into the world. He admitted that his daughter longed for a sister. He said:
"During each of my wives' subsequent pregnancies, my daughter would say, 'I hope it's a girl.'"
What Are Skarsgård's Family Values As A Father of Eight?
Although having a big family is challenging, Skarsgård has confirmed that he loves having eight children and values each of them individually. He used his father's family values to raise his family.

The actor said that his father told him and his siblings that while they were each individually valuable, nobody mattered more or less than anybody else. This is something that he taught his own children.
He also said that he taught each of his eight children to question everything, hoping that it would lead them to think about the difference between right and wrong. He also hoped it would help them be more effective when trying to defend themselves.
Skarsgård said that teaching his children these traits has made their family gatherings loud, which some people can't bear, but he loves. He said a discussion that might seem aggressive to others is to his family an opportunity to reach a compromise.
When asked how often he manages to see all of his children, the actor said revealed it was more often than not, saying:
"I see all the children together every three months or so, but at least five or six of them every week."
Another thing Skarsgård's father taught by example was giving your children an opinion and advice but not expecting them to follow it. He mentioned that he learned this when he told his father he wanted to be an actor.

While his father did not discourage him from pursuing the career, he offered advice on what might happen if he did. He did the same thing with his own children when they told him they wanted to be actors.
He said that he taught his children that they should be good people and live full lives no matter what they choose. He also said he had no ambitions for his children, and they could choose their life paths independently.
While Skarsgård provided for his children and was there for them when they needed him, he also taught them that the world is an uncertain and unfair place where you could lose your job anytime. He said:
"The only thing you can do is to try to make your family feel loved and valued and hope they will carry that knowledge through life, whatever it brings."
Skarsgård Is a Grandfather to Possilbly Three
Skarsgård's children have made him a grandfather, and he has welcomed three grandbabies in as many years. His first, Bill's child, was a baby girl that's birth was only announced 11 months after her birth.
The second grandchild born into the Skarsgård family was Gustaf's daughter. Her existence was only made known when her father shared a photo of them on the beach in 2021 and mentioned that she would turn one the next day.
The actor's third grandchild was possibly brought into the world in 2022. Once again, the notoriously private family did not announce the child's birth. A baby's existence was only noted when Alexander was seen carrying a newborn child while out to dinner with his wife.
Fans have speculated that the bundle he was carrying was the couple's first child together and would be Skarsgårds' third grandchild. Despite the photos, there has been no confirmation from the family to say that the child is indeed Alex's.
