What Happened at the Kids' Birthday Party?

According to Stickler, she and her daughter were at the park in their neighborhood two hours before she shared the video. Stickler, her daughter, and a birthday group were the only people at the park that day. Stickler said her daughter went to play with the kids in the birthday group:

"Literally, just us and this birthday group, these kids are having a birthday party. MK is playing with them for like half an hour. They're making friends."

Stickler stayed close to the birthday party as her daughter, MK, made friends with other kids in the birthday group. When the birthday group started cutting the cake and singing the Happy Birthday song, MK joined them.

MK's mother felt that her daughter was part of the group at this point. She also thought that the group was welcoming her daughter with open arms, but it turned out differently. She narrated:

"Time to eat cake. I see MK, I see her intention of grabbing a piece of cake, so I walk over to make sure it's okay, as a formality, honestly."

Stickler noted that the cake was massive, and her daughter could have taken any leftover pieces. However, when MK tried to take a piece of cake, the host took the piece of birthday cake away from her. MK's mother added:

"The mother takes the plate away from MK and gets down to her level, and says, You cannot eat this cake, okay? This is not your birthday party. These are not your friends. Where's your mother?"

MK's mother watched all these happening to her daughter, but she didn't share details about what happened next, including how she reacted or how her daughter felt.

What Were People's Opinions about the Incident

Stickler received comments that agreed with her opinion that what the other mother did to her daughter was wrong. One person said what the other mother did will be taken as a horrible example by the other kids:

"This is teaching her kids to exclude others and to not share. Horrible, horrible, horrible. And that's not even tapping the surface on how mean spirited that was toward MK. *sending her virtual cake*."

This person added that MK was sweet because she was open to making friends with the kids in the birthday group. She hoped that this incident wouldn't discourage MK from being friendly. Another mother said she agreed with Stickler's comments. The mother noted that what the other mother did was wrong and selfish:

"I was raised to share, if I was at a public park and other kids were there playing with my kid,of course you would expect the kids to get cake. It isn't who gives presents, it is the one who shares."

This mother said if the other mother had sidelined her child, she would have said something about it. More people agreed with Stickler and said that MK should have just been given the little piece of cake. An individual pointed out that MK, who is 3, couldn't have understood why the other mother denied her a cake:

"She will go home with a broken heart not understanding why the lady wouldn't allow her to have a piece of cake. Shame on you lady...God was watching."

Some people were conflicted and didn't know who to blame. A person said Stickler should have approached the other mom hosting the party and introduced herself and MK.

This person claimed that the introduction would have made it easier for the other mom to feel like MK was part of the group. However, the person said they would still give MK a piece of cake if that were their party because denying a child this joy didn't sit right with them:

"I do not at all agree with what the mom said to a child. That is horrific and cold and mean. However, she was obviously annoyed the mom never came up to her bc she said, where's your mom?"

Other people defended the other mother. They called out Stickler for not stopping her daughter from taking the cake. "Don't go where you are not invited. Period," a person commented.

One mother said Stickler was wrong for letting her child join another group uninvited. She noted that the other mother didn't have to share her cake with a stranger even if there were some leftovers:

"I'm sure the party guests or family might like a second piece or left overs. This is what is wrong with people today. So entitled."

This mother said she had faced the same incident when taking food to her kids at the park and other strange children, who no one ever said no, to line up for her kids' food.

Another person said Stickler was unfair for slamming the other mother's parenting when she had never seen this mother abusing her own children. The individual added:

"She didn't want her kid eating cake that's fine never know the situation might be worried about an allergic reaction or she might not want her eating sugar or something."

Stickler replied to some comments and said her only regret was not getting to MK fast enough to stop her from grabbing the cake. Want more like this? Click here to read about parents who forbade their kids from attending another child's birthday because he was "too different."
