Morgan Freeman's 2008 car accident left him with an injured left hand. Over a decade later, the actor still wears a glove on that hand. Despite his health challenges, Freeman leads an active life, including beekeeping on his ranch and managing a restaurant and blues club. He remains committed to his Hollywood career and shows no signs of slowing down.

In January 2008, then-71-year-old actor Morgan Freeman met an accident near his Charleston, Mississippi home. "The Shawshank Redemption" star and a female companion, Demaris Meyer, were in the car he was driving when it flipped and rolled over.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman, there was no involvement of drugs and alcohol in the crash. Freeman and Meyer, who owned the vehicle, were wearing their seatbelts when the accident occurred.

The duo had to be cut free by rescuers using the Jaws of Life. Both victims were airlifted to a nearby hospital and faced severe health issues. The Oscar Award-winning star broke his elbow and arm and underwent surgery to repair nerve damage.

Still, Freeman remained in "good spirits," according to his publicist. Freeman was expected to recover fully and did so in no time. Unfortunately, his left hand has not returned to its original state due to the accident. To make matters worse, the actor's condition, fibromyalgia, makes his arm feel pain.

"It's the fibromyalgia," Freeman said. "Up and down the arm. That's where it gets so bad. Excruciating." However, the Hollywood veteran still enjoys many beautiful things in life. He knows better than to sulk and would instead move on. He still gets to work, play golf, and do other activities.

Besides Freeman's striking appearance, keen-eyed viewers noticed the actor's black glove on his left hand. Over a decade later, the accessory remains on Freeman's hand, rooted in the 2008 car accident, the effects of which still linger.

The 2023 Oscar Awards ceremony was not the first time Freeman wore a glove during a notable event. Freeman also sported a glove during the 2018 SAG Awards and the 2022 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony. The color of his glove often matches his outfits, making it look seamless and complementary.

Besides acting, Freeman found passion in beekeeping, a hobby that began in 2014. The actor discovered the need to preserve and save wild bees for the growth and survival of the planet.

At 86, Morgan Freeman Is Happily Living on a Ranch

Now 86, Freeman is still living with the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Although he doesn't disclose his exact symptoms, the more common ones include fatigue, heightened pain sensitivity, stiff muscles, headaches, and difficulty sleeping.

While he can't avoid his condition, Freeman takes control of the things he can, including his lifestyle. In his 80s, the "Evan Almighty" star maintained a healthy and active life through discipline. He said:

"Exercise, part of your discipline. How you eat [is] part of your discipline. I try not to overeat. One of the things that I discovered somewhere back down the line was that eating, for us particularly here, has become a habit, not necessarily a need."

Freeman enjoys his days living in his 124-acre ranch-turned-bee sanctuary. Besides acting, Freeman found passion in beekeeping, a hobby that began in 2014. The actor discovered the need to preserve and save wild bees for the growth and survival of the planet.

In 2019, Freeman made a spectacular addition to his Mississippi ranch by importing 26 bee hives from Arkansas. Demonstrating his commitment to the insects, Freeman diligently tends to their needs by providing sugar and water for their nutrition.

He has also taken proactive steps to enhance their habitat by planting a variety of bee-friendly flora, including lavender, magnolia trees, and clover. Though Freeman had, at the time, yet to wear a bee suit during his rounds, he managed to keep himself safe without getting stung.

His primary focus remains on nurturing and caring for them, with no intention of extracting honey or causing any disruption to their hives. Freeman is happy with his sanctuary and the little and big things he does for the creatures.

Besides beekeeping, Freeman co-owns and manages a fine dining restaurant called Madidi and a blues club called Ground Zero in Mississippi and Tennessee. He also has a private pilot's license but can no longer fly planes the same way. Freeman said:

"I don't ride horses for the same reason I don't fly or sail a boat. It's better to have two hands working than do that with one hand. I've had to give up some fun things."

Although not married at the moment, Freeman has walked down the aisle twice in the past. In 1967, he married Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, his first wife. After their divorce in 1979, Freeman tied the knot with Myrna Colley-Lee in 1984. They divorced in 2010.

During his marriages, Freeman had four children, Deena Freeman, Morgana Freeman, Saifoulaye Freeman, and Alfonso Morgan, who is also a Hollywood actor. Freeman is still active in his Hollywood career, and it seems he has no plans of slowing down.
