Nicolas Cage Mocked for Supporting Son Having an Imaginary Friend While They Traveled on a Plane
- Nicolas Cage has had a long dating history, with some marriages lasting only a few days.
- When his marriage with his ex-wife Alice Kim ended, he admitted he did not see it coming, but it was his most meaningful union.
- The actor was criticized for feeding into his child's "delusions" of having an imaginary friend.
Nicolas Cage is a versatile, award-winning actor and a self-proclaimed rebel. The actor has had several failed marriages, with some lasting only a few days.
Cage was first married to award-winning actress Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001. He then married Elvis Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in 2002, but Cage filed for divorce short of four months into their marriage. Their divorce was finalized in 2004.

The same year he divorced Presley, he married his third wife, Alice Kim, and they were together until 2016. Three years later, he and Erika Koike had a spur-of-the-moment wedding in Las Vegas. However, after four days of being married, Cage sought an annulment, and two months later, the divorce was finalized.
The actor did try his luck in love for the fifth time with his Japanese girlfriend, Riko Shibata, with whom he tied the knot in 2021.
His journey through these marriages also made him a father along the way. His firstborn is Weston Coppola Cage, whom he shares with Christina Fulton.

The actor's marriage with Kim was one of his longest. He met her when she was 19 years old, working at a restaurant in Los Angeles. When the couple decided to tie the knot, Cage wanted to travel and be with her in South Africa while he filmed "Lord of War."
Kim was 20 years younger than Cage, but the actor did not care. However, Kim's family was not too keen about him being two decades older. He remembered the first thing his mother-in-law said was, “She is too young!"
It became clear to Cage that it was going to take a lot of work for him to win over his in-laws, which he eventually did. Kim and the "Ghost Rider" star went on to welcome a son, Kal-El.

The actor and his wife chose the unique name Kal-El because he is a big comic book fan and named his son after Superman. Cage admitted that he never thought of himself as a person that would settle down. "I was a punk rocker, I was rebelling, I didn't want any kind of comfort at home," he explained.
Therefore, when Kim and Cage ended their relationship of 14 years, the divorce was not something the "Face/Off" actor expected. He opened up about how he processed this whirlwind of emotions.
Cage Was Shocked When His 14-Year Marriage with Alice Kim Ended
When Kim and Cage split in 2016, the actor admitted that he did not see the split coming. The couple went their separate ways just before he was about to start filming "Mandy."

The "Mandy” star candidly expressed, “It was a shocker for me — I definitely didn't see it coming, and those feelings had to go somewhere, so they went into the performance."
His marriage with Kim meant a lot to Cage. He even once said that it was the only marriage he counted and that the previous unions did not "belong” to his record. The actor added, "The real marriage for me was the 14 years I had with Alice and the child we have together."
The "National Treasure" actor and Kim have kept a good relationship. In fact, Kim attended her ex-husband's wedding to Shibata. Cage and Shibata had a small ceremony and a celebration where friends and family joined them.

The former couple has maintained a healthy co-parenting relationship and has been spotted having dinner and going on shopping trips with their teenage son several times. Even though the couple share moments with their son, Kal-El loves to keep a low profile.
Cage and his current wife, Shibata, also announced they were expecting their first child together, making the unborn child the actor's third offspring.
