When it comes to the reasons why the Carters' marriage has lasted so long, former President Carter put forth advice that involves one marrying who they consider to be the best spouse. While speaking to People, he expressed the importance of finding someone who is caring, engaging, one who will stand by one's side no matter what and challenge the individual to be the best version of themselves.

He also stated that one must look for a partner who will make you feel alive and have a zest for life. As far as how to work through life's challenges and difficulties that often elicit disagreements between spouses from time to time, he revealed:

"At the end of the day, we try to become reconciled and overcome all the differences that arose during the day. We also make up and give each other a kiss before we go to sleep still in the bed, and we always read the Bible every night, which adds a different aspect to life. So, we really try to become completely reconciled each night before we go to sleep."

Getting married at Plains United Methodist Church in 1946 marks almost a century's worth of loving moments together, which all started with a movie date. In the summer of 1945, a young Mr. Carter was on leave from the U.S. Naval Academy when he asked Mrs. Carter out to the Rylander Theatre in Americus.

The very next day, he told his mother that he knew she was the one he would wed. Since then, the two have been inseparable.

They depend on each other so much to the point where neither one feels whole without having the other in close proximity. A tweet Jason posted after visiting his grandparents this past Friday amid their quiet celebration disclosed:

"They are at peace, and, as always, their home is full of love."
